2020.09.27 00:09 Laddimor The humans and the Raflexian scouts

This one is a continuation of " The Raflexian scouts " from the perspective of the humans within the same timeframe. It is my hope that I manage to write this one out with better formatting, I've been watching youtube videos trying to learn how while I also juggle how I want the story to go. Sorry if this ends up not being up to par either. Please let me know how to improve in the comments once more.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Date: July 4th 2040.
Location: Washington D.C., Earth, Sol system.
President Miller of the united states of America
Miller was at a press conference trying to secure his next election when a secret service agent interrupted his speech. " I'm sorry sir, this is urgent. we need you at the white house ASAP." He said, at nearly a whisper.
Miller felt his chest tighten, "Is it the Russians? or maybe the Great Asian Alliance? What is going on?" he asked. The agent remained silent however, as he pushed President Miller along to the limousine. Miller now alone with his thoughts began to think about what could have possibly been so important. Was it Russia breaking the Accords of 2026? he thought. Maybe its the Great Asian Alliance preparing to nuke us, or worse yet, what if they put aside their differences to fight us? he thought. Tired of running useless depressing scenarios in his head, he jokingly said " God i hope its just aliens."

Miller arrived at the white house and was rushed inside by what felt like forty people. The closer he got to the conference room the more his chest tightened and the more butterflies he got in his stomach. Finally he arrives at the door to the Virtual conference room. Miller steps inside the room to see only a single large chair with four guards stationed on each side. Miller walks over to the chair and sits in it, as it begins to recline he feels a pinprick in the base of his skull and then, in a snap he is in a massive conference room with not only his staff but the leaders and staff from every major nation.
Miller takes in the surrounding faces of each country and now, he had a truly sinking feeling. " What is goin on? does anyone have a sitrep?" Miller asked.
" We only just arrived ourselves Mr. Miller, so no. we don't know." President Vladimir Putin of Russia said with only a drizzle of sarcasm.
" You really should know already Mr. Miller, after all, it concerns your country the most." Grand Chancellor Liu Cixin said.
A woman cleared her throat so as to get everyone's attention " I believe we have a guest who wishes to speak regarding this very incident gentleman. please allow her the floor." British prime minister Lillian Taylor said.
" Thank you Ms. Taylor. as she said, i am here to deliver the news, both good, and bad. as of thirty minutes ago we got a communications from an extraterrestrial race of sapient beings with extremely advanced technology. they are currently waiting to speak with all the major leaders of this world. namely, all of you." Chief of staff Tiffany Wiles said.
Everyone in the room seemed shocked, there were gasps, murmurs to their respective subordinates, a few seemed frozen, still processing the news. " Good news first ladies and gentleman." she said. " They are willing to bring us into their fold and teach us new technologies. bad news? they really don't like the fact that we have our religions and they are threatening the use of deadly force if we do not worship their god " Raflexus". They are called the Raflexians and based on the trajectory they came in at we estimate that they came from the Coma Berenices star cluster." she said. Then a holo-projection appeared in their virtual space.
" Human leaders, we are the Raflexians. We see that you worship many gods and it disgusts us. There is only one true god, and his almighty name is Divine god king Raflexus XLVI! If you are willing to discard your fake gods in place of our god king then you may join our empire and become, Raflexian! However, if you wish to continue the worship of these false idols then we will take it as a personal attack upon our kings name. Make your choice humans, and make it now.
The room erupted into a cacophony of inarticulate screams and plea's all melded into one within this virtual space. Each country vying for the Raflexians attention at the same time as the others. Finally the Raflexians had heard enough of it and pointed at President Miller. " You, Human leader Miller. you may speak first as we are above your city currently. Not theirs.
The whole room froze, but none more than Miller. His mind running wild with not only being put on the spot like that after hearing such troubling news, but the implications. The implications of them being over his city. The implications of deadly force upon his people. He started to tremble. there was no way he could possibly convince the entirety of America to drop all of our religions, do away with our religious materials, and texts. it simply wasn't possible. Miller knew that most of his family even would sooner die than forsake god. Miller gave in too the panic that had been building inside of him since the agent had pulled him aside.
" We cant possibly promise to stop the worship immediately, there are too many people, religions, and places! It just cant be done! Please gives us better terms, I beg of you! PLEASE! Be reasonable!" he said.
Everyone in the room looked at Miller with some part pity some part anger. They watched as he shook and turned red while screaming his plea's to the aliens who were no doubt going to be angered over this, and then, the Raflexians spoke.
" It seems you need to learn your lesson."
The holo-projection of the Raflexian scout disappeared and in its place a holo-projection of a ship descending from orbit appeared. The Raflexians were heading to Washington D.C.
All present within the room sat frozen in time within this space, all frozen with fear as a ship that was about as big as an aircraft carrier hovered above the American capitol. Then, Several lasers shot out at once destroying every single mosque, church, and any other religious places of worship.
The Raflexian appeared once more in place of the screen and said one thing. " We will show you true might, go ahead and strike at us as much as you wish. your primitive weaponry will amount to nothing." he said.
The Raflexian scout disappeared as the screen came back to reveal thirty one F-53 Lightning jets flying in at Mach 11.7 before engaging the enemy vessel with everything they had. The room watched as the worlds most powerful military engaged a single alien ship. The jets opened with Vulcan .50 caliber guns which bounced of the scouts shielding. Then the jets launched a volley of EMP missiles at the ship which the ship didn't even attempt to shoot down. This proved to be the downfall of the Raflexian scout as the missiles impacted the shielding and tore it to shreds, the jets then fired H.E. missiles which the scout ship attempted to intercept this time. Lasers shot out at our missiles and destroyed most of them but two got through and struck the engines causing the ship to list before falling to the ground with a thunderous crash.
The Citizens who had just witnessed this slaughtering of their religious sites, friends, and family, then congregated at the wreckage of the fallen ship beating at the hull and screaming with everything they had. Finally a hatch opened and the Raflexians stepped out plasma casters in hand, They unleashed searing plasma at the crowd of enraged humans killing several on the spot. This only served to enrage them further causing them to scream what could only be called a war cry before charging the dozen Raflexians. The Raflexians shot as fast as they could but there were simply too many angry humans, soon the crowd had reached them and when they did they beat and bludgeoned the Raflexians to death with nothing but debris from the wreckage.
A crowd of humans then drug off the dead or unconscious bodies of eleven Raflexians putting them into a pile and setting it alight, while another mob of them went inside the ship to search for surviving crew to kill and burn but all they found were the personal effects of the twelve they had already fought. They couldn't go back empty handed so they grabbed the holographic image projector that showed Raflexus from a table and left the ship. The man who had taken the projector then walked through the mob to the one remaining Raflexian who was being forced to watch his crewmates burn. He squatted down in front of the Raflexian and asked who the projector was displaying.
The scout saw the projection of his god and felt at peace, he looked at the human in front of him and said, " He is your new god, you will worship him. My ship was over 5 millennia old so it is so outdated that you wont even be able to glean any relevant secrets from it. My people will come, High commander Trikx will come, and he, will destroy you." he said
The human looked at the Raflexian scout and said " your god looks like a piece of shit. what's his name?"
The Raflexian scout seethed with anger as he heard the human say that his god looked like a piece of fecal matter. " His name is Divine god king Raflexus XLVI and you will burn for daring to slander our lord!"
The human chuckled. " Ya well my names Gabriel and it looks like you're the one whos gonna be burnin'." he said. Gabriel then hefted the Raflexian to his shoulder and then tossed him into the flames and ash that were once his crewmates. "Did ya hear that boys and girls? ET just came down from the heavens and killed our families because we wouldn't bend the knee to this here piece of shit!" he then thrusted the projector above his head so the whole crowd could see the god king that was the cause of this.
The World leaders had just sat there in silence as the projector played, They could do nothing but watch as their warrants for death were signed. Finally Liu Cixin spoke up. " I would like to propose a global alliance at this point to partake in joint research of that vessel so that we may reverse engineer it and create a fleet that may be capable of defending our world from the coming fires. All who agree raise your right hand."
The first hand to go up was Lillian Taylor of great Britain, followed by Vladimir Putin of Russia, and now they were just waiting on President Miller who was still just watching the screen, frozen. Finally Miller looked away from the screen and just looked down before yelling. " Why the FUCK! did I hope it was FUCKING aliens! FUCK!" he screamed as he thrust his right hand up with as much force as a virtual projection of himself could.

Sorry this took so long, I had almost completed it yesterday and then it didn't save so I had to rewrite it from memory today. Ended up changing a little bit anyways. Felt like it was getting too long so I tried to cut it a little shorter than I had intended. Do let me know how to improve in the comments. Constructive criticism always welcome.

Ghostbusters of London: Campaign 1 Casefile
I hope nobody minds, but approximately three weeks ago, I started "series 2" of my Ghostbusters of London campaign, and while we don't have any recordings or comics or such, I thought nobody would mind if I shared a summary of their adventures so far. I'll start with some quick character descriptions and then give an overview of each case they've been involved in.
We're ready to believe you!
=========================================
The Stars of the Show
  • Cassidy Dempsey, the Brains: the shortest and smartest member of the team, a sharp-witted, green-haired wild child who crafts new ideas to expand their ghostbusting arsenal. A childhood encounter with a fearsome banshee awakened a sense of exploration and obsession in her.
  • Harrison Ace, the Muscles: the strongest and biggest member of the team, an accountant who previously attempted to reconcile his job with his Christian upbringing. Incredibly well-meaning, but clumsy and prone to accidents. His player has the most consistent habit of rolling ghosts.
  • Michael Smith, the Moves: a grumpy but practical engineer, and the one who has to find ways of putting Dempsey's wacky ideas together. Usually at his happiest when maintaining and upgrading the existing equipment. Also imbued with a remarkable gift for jumping. Fan of old horror flicks.
  • Zachary Flynn, the Cool: an American expat and professional Elvis impersonator, Flynn ran away to England on the pretence of visiting relatives. Now the public face of the London team. Wears a custom white, tassel-sleeved uniform and a "the King ain't dead" sticker on his proton pack.
  • Katherine "Kitty" Evans, the Heart: the ghost of a woman who died quite suddenly in 1969, now the housemate and sometimes-test-subject for Dempsey's experiments. Searching for the reasons behind her death. Ex-N.P.C. adopted by a player who developed her further than I ever could.
  • ECTO-1: the company vehicle, a van extensively modified from an Iveco ambulance into a reliable, all-in-one ghostbusting machine.
=========================================
Supporting Cast
  • Louise Valentine (24): the team's receptionist. Sensible, logical, organised, but more than a bit abrasive. A very private individual who keeps much of her personal life and beliefs to herself.
  • Sarah Derrell (13): a budding paranormal blogger and the London team's number one follower, sometimes called on to provide historical data on the locations they investigate. Uncomfortable with her single father's disapproval of our heroes.
  • Harmon Derrell (40): Sarah's father and aide to Mayor Robinson, which means he's overworked, underappreciated, and frequently the butt of jokes. Has an intense dislike towards the team, and very protective of his young daughter.
  • Sven Robinson (67): the mayor of London and a keen supporter of the Ghostbusters. Excitable and approachable, but somewhat eccentric and forgetful. It's a miracle how he keeps getting re-elected when he'd rather spend time holidaying in the Lake District than running the city.
  • Pamela Arkwright (26): a maid at the Crown Hotel. Adventurous and charming. Currently dating Flynn.
  • Daniel McBride (27): a male nurse who started dating Ace after tending to his injuries on multiple occasions. Revealed to have a much deeper connection to the strange phenomena in the city than anyone realised.
  • Calvin Ace (13): Ace's lackadaisical nephew, and a staunch disbeliever. Inconveniently faints when confronted with the paranormal. Thinks the whole operation is a scam and that Sarah is a nutter.
  • Brayden Strand: Grand Master of the Ordo Templi Stellae and arch-nemesis of the London team. Last survivor of a White Lodge of magicians that was destroyed by schisms during WWI. Hellbent on global domination through a long-running plan to bring forth the Moonchild, a spiritual super-weapon. His current whereabouts are unknown.
  • The Architect Demon: caught accidentally by a ritual almost ninety years ago, the demon was set free from his prison by the London Ghostbusters, and has returned on multiple occasions to give them hints about Brayden Strand's schemes. Its true motivations outside of avenging itself on the magicians who trapped him remain unknown.
  • Sebastian Frobisher: former butler of the Strand family, enslaved to the will of the Grand Master. Final boss of the campaign.
=========================================
For the context, both the original two films and the 2009 computer game are considered canonical. The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters animated series exist as one of Dr Peter Venkman's many deals to increase the company's publicity. The adventures of the Ghostbusters of London team begin in mid-2016.
The Campaign
  1. The Resurrection-Men: after two weeks of inactivity, the London Ghostbusters receive their first proper case. An old pub is undergoing refurbishment, and the work has awoken a trio of violent poltergeists. The team meet Sarah, a budding paranormal investigator herself, who's been stuck in the cellar since she sneaked in to record evidence of supernatural activity. She reveals that the ghosts are the Boulstridge Gang, grave-robbers who resorted to murder when fresh bodies got difficult to find. Their leader Ainsley Boulstridge developed an interest in anatomical science that led him to perform twisted surgeries, and he's set his sights on young Sarah as his next subject. When she is spirited off to his hidden workshop, the new team come together to rescue her and prove they've got the tools and the talent to earn their stripes. Client: Reid Tolmach-Tolmach, owner of the Beast & Bottle pub Ghost(s): Ainsley, Billy, and Georgie Boulstridge (class IV); Ainsley's victims (class I)
  2. The Suicide View: Dempsey and Smith design and build a new addition to their equipment—the boson blaster, which lacks a capture mode but is more powerful than a standard proton stream. The team are approached by the staff of the Crown Hotel about multiple suicides linked to the legend of a cursed room, which foul-tempered manager Donald Sinclair doesn't believe. Hoping to prevent further loss of life, the team decide to go undercover so they can investigate. Among the things they encounter are Kitty Evans, a young woman who doesn't know she died 48 years ago, a stream of caustic black slime leaking into the sewers underneath the car park, and Greta Armbruster, a mysterious and beautiful scholar with a ring bearing an odd symbol. Ace suffers a violent possessive episode in the cursed room, and Louise discovers that in 1902, a maid named Helen W. hanged herself after being forced to give her baby up for adoption. The manager finds out and starts provoking the ghost to prove a point, angering Helen and a monstrous, infant-like entity born from the negative emotions that have been collecting there for decades. Following a pitched battle, the team manage to defeat the monster by severing its connection to Helen. Kitty agrees to leave the hotel and join them at their fire station headquarters. Client: Crown Hotel staff Ghost(s): Katherine "Kitty" Evans (class IV); Helen W. (class IV); the Crown Hotel Baby (class V)
  3. The Hexed Factor: over the next month, Smith upgrades the ghost traps and Dempsey builds a set of slime-weave gloves that will allow physical interaction with ghosts. The team are enjoying a rise in public profile thanks to their adventure at the Crown Hotel and are approached by pop sensation Aurora Monday, who describes a horrifying encounter which left her without a voice. Her agent, Ralph Stainthorpe, stubbornly limits any interactions with her, much to their chagrin. A sudden visit of inspection from the mayor and his sour-faced aide, Harmon Derrell, causes a delay, but a a strange e-mail containing a list of similarly affected singers, each represented by the same agency, puts them back on the trail. They identify the culprit as a Varypnas, a type of troublesome spirit from Greek folklore. They also discover that Stainthorpe's sister Judith was a judge on the T.V. talent show Chart Throb, on which Aurora was a contestant, and the two share a contemptuous relationship. They find Judith's address and head there, only to find Stainthorpe already confronting her. Judith unleashes the Varypnas, and the fight tears through the house. Dempsey hospitalises her with a well-timed headbutt, and the others trap the ghost and break the curse. A follow-up investigation unearths signs of ritual activity and a ring identical to the one worn by Greta Armbruster. Client: Aurora Monday, pop star Ghost(s): the Varypnas (class V)
  4. Role-Playing Game of Thrones: Smith successfully constructs and tests a new device: the dark matter generator. The team are hired by two people in striking costumes, the Goodwins, who organise a LARP for the game League of a Thousand Swords, which is held in Epping Forest. At their last event, players attacked each other and woke up with amnesia. The team posit a case of mass possession, but are more excited to dress up in flashy costumes so they can check out the game without alarming the attendees. On the day of the event, the team get split up in the woods. Dempsey and Ace get captured by the pirate guild, led by Sarah and her father, who is furious at their presence. Smith uncovers ghosts of cavaliers and roundheads from an obscure battle during the English Civil War using the LARPers as hosts. Flynn uncovers a stone door in the undergrowth, which leads him to the prison of a two-headed demon, Sydow and Ekerot. A long time ago, a Celtic hero named Flann Ó’Floinn and some druids trapped them down there until one could discover a way to out-cheat the other in a contest of wits. Using the lost skull of Thomas Cromwell as a totem, they've been manipulating the ghosts to conduct war games for them on the surface. Flynn challenges the demons to a game of Fizzbin, which gives them both such a headache that it breaks their control, allowing the others to bust the ghosts. Sydow and Ekerot hurl the skull into a pool of black slime out of pettiness and allow Flynn to return to the surface, swearing revenge. Client: Chaz and Holly Goodwin, LARP organisers Ghost(s): roundheads and cavaliers (class III); Sydow & Ekerot (class VII)
  5. Dark Hood: Dempsey's research into the rings leads her to the Ordo Templi Stellae, a fraternal occult organisation chaired by Brayden Strand, a publisher who was acquaintances with such known figures as Aleister Crowley and Ivo Shandor. The fire station is visited by a warden from the Tower of London, who found a missing football in the hall and took it home, after which he had dreams about two young boys trying to escape from a terrifying knight. The Ghostbusters agree to keep the ball for further study, and experience the same phenomena while sleeping. They conduct research on the history of the Tower, and learn the legends surrounding the two princes who were lodged there and whose final fate remains unknown. The knight is the silent killer Sir Thomas De'Ath, whose ghost now pursues whomsoever holds the football anchoring the two princes. The fight that ensues between De'Ath and the Ghostbusters causes extensive damage to the fire station and their equipment, but eventually, our heroes prevail. In doing so, they allow the two princes to peacefully depart this dimension. Client: Martin Crane, Yeoman Warden at the Tower of London Ghost(s): Sir Thomas De'Ath (class III); the Princes in the Tower (class IV)
  6. Take That to the Bank: the team are hired by the banking firm of Dempsey, Dawson, Stinge and Farley, represented by none other than Dempsey's great uncle Sidney. Due to an incident when she was a child involving a bottle of apple juice and the petrol tank of his favourite automobile, Sidney is less than happy to discover she's working with the Ghostbusters. It transpires that the bank has recently repossessed the premises occupied by Abraxas Publishing House, specialised in circulating occult periodicals. An e-mail sent by the same unknown contact from the Varypnas case informs them that Brayden Strand was the lease holder, and that the Ordo Templi Stellae used the building to conduct rituals and publish pamphlets between the ’20s and ’70s. Bizarre sounds and disturbances have been chasing away the survey teams, preventing the bank from reselling the building. More than that, the dimensions of the basement level have transformed and expanded into subterranean caverns, and at its heart waits an imprisoned demon, trapped by a ritual decades ago and used for inspiration by the order. The Ghostbusters are attacked by a towering masonry golem placed to watch over the prison. Destroying the golem, they realise too late they've accidentally compromised the prison, freeing the demon. Client: Sidney Dempsey, partner in Dempsey, Dawson, Stinge and Farley Ghost(s): the Architect Demon (class VII); Masonry Golem (class VI)
  7. Frostbitten, Twice Shy: Ace has recently started dating Daniel McBride, a nurse he met during his frequent visits to the accident-and-emergency ward. He finds out that the trendy Ice Bar in Mayfair is holding a couple's night. Suddenly, a freezing wind sweeps through, sealing most of the customers inside ice sculptures, including Daniel. Ace calls in the rest of the team, and they learn from the bar's owner that the ice was imported from the River Torne in Sweden. A portal opens in the ice, which leads the Ghostbusters to the icy River Styx, where groups of phantom fisherman are out in their boats. Through them, they learn that the culprit is Caspar Lundgren, who died on the river and was forever separated from his beloved Theodora. Now any couples he sees suffer his miserable wrath. Dempsey masquerades as Theodora to lure him out, but the ruse only infuriates Caspar, who turns her into one of his army of snow golems. While Ace flees from his transformed teammate, Smith and Flynn spring into action, fighting through the snow beasts until they reach Caspar's boat, busting him and rescuing the trapped people. Client: Ermine Foxx, D.J. and owner of the Ice Bar Ghost(s): Caspar Lundgren (class IV); Snow Golems (class VI)
  8. The Tube Challenge: the London Ghostbusters get their first government contract when ghosts flood the railway lines between several stations, forming a pentagram around Piccadilly Circus. Also present is the mayor's aide Harmon Derrell, who is distraught that Sarah has vanished into the Underground, drawn by her fascination with all things paranormal. Upon seeing the team, he is quick to blame them and has to be restrained by police. Now knowing their young friend is in peril, and with countless ghosts, monsters, and demons escaping onto the streets of the city, the team head down into the depths of the metro system. Encountering ghost trains and other assorted nasties, they eventually find Sarah in the clutches of Edward Burke, a police inspector who practised vampirism on young girls, and he's already infused her with enough ectoplasmic essence to begin her transformation. Sarah proves tough to wrangle, but after defeating Burke, they manage to restore her. Deeper in the tunnels, a river of slime leads them to a gateway that channels the stuff all over the city, and waiting for them are the Architect Demon and his Terror Dog, Fido. The demon explains that Strand took the plans for the gateway straight from his own mind and is taking time to admire the work. After besting Fido in combat, the team destroy the gateway, causing the ghosts to either disappear or drift away to parts unknown. Client: Redmond Drexel, Commissioner of Transport for London Ghost(s): Edward Clavicus Burke (class IV); Fido the Terror Dog (class VI); the Architect Demon (class VII)
  9. From the Studio Built on Death: the team receive a call from the long-abandoned grounds of Langbourn Films, which is set to be demolished and redeveloped. Workers are being afflicted with sickness and nightmarish hallucinations whenever they get too close to the building. The cause is traced to the ghost of Hildred Slade, the studio's cruel owner and the subject of many unsavoury rumours. The Ghostbusters are whisked away into worlds based on Slade's movies, but Smith is able to shake off the illusion and travel through the various dimensions to rescue his teammates. Once reunited, they make their way to Slade's portrait in their studio foyer, the locus of the haunting, and destroy it, allowing them to catch him. Client: Adelaide Rockwest, owner of Rockwest Construction, Ltd. Ghost(s): Hildred Slade (class IV)
  10. Dear Margaret…: the team travel to the house of a famous writer in Surrey, and Sarah insists on accompanying them, as does Kitty, revealing that the writer is her living sister Patricia. A joyous reunion ensues, and Kitty learns that for years, Patricia has been communicating with a ghost named Margaret. Lately, however, she's been quiet, save for bursts of violent poltergeist activity. The team have been called not for a bust, but to help her. Finding her ghost in the foundations, Margaret explains that she was part of Brayden Strand's experiment to create a Moonchild until he realised she was infertile, after which he imprisoned her ghost in a pool of black slime so she could be used to channel psychic turbulence later. Strand found other, suitable subjects, now the Moonchild, an immeasurably destructive super-being, has been born. Margaret flies into a rage, possessing the cottage and turning it into a monster form, but a boson shot from Flynn destroys it, allowing the ghost to be trapped. Flynn emerges from the rubble, possessed by the Architect Demon, who reveals that Strand is still alive somehow, before Ace angrily chases him away. The team comfort Patricia with a solemn promise to avenge what happened to Margaret because of Strand, and call in a favour with Rockwest to build her a new cottage. Client: Patricia Featherstonehaugh, semi-retired author Ghost(s): Margaret Kisgart (class IV)
  11. How to Serve Man: Sarah falls into a coma and is taken to hospital. Meanwhile, the team receive a visit from Smiler Brown, an urchin whom Kitty knew during her living days who has fallen onto hard times. His fellow homeless are disappearing off the streets, spirited away by monsters, and the police haven't responded. The Ghostbusters agree to help regardless of payment, and head to the site of the most recent incidents. Clues lead them to the sewers, where they get split up. Kitty meets a charming yet sinister butler named Frobisher, who explains that a grand banquet is being held for a very special guest, and that she had best get to the castle kitchens, ruled by the cruel chef, Mister Swelter. Client: Smiler Brown, no occupation or fixed abode Ghost(s): Mister Swelter (class IV); Sebastian Frobisher (class VI/IV)
  12. London Calling (Part 1): an ancient Scottish castle has appeared in the middle of the Thames, and the Ghostbusters find huge crowds gathering along the banks. Police, and even the army, have set up protective barriers. Worse, black slime is filling the river, spewing ghosts into the atmosphere. The Ghostbusters enter the castle via boat, and are welcomed by the staff. They explain that the team's work has helped greatly with preparing the guest of honour for some upcoming event. Kitty finds out that Swelter is pulling the spirits from the kidnapped homeless to be consumed at the banquet, but cannot defeat him by herself. The team reconvene to save the kidnapped people and escape the castle, while battling Swelter and his underlings. Despite their efforts, however, the Moonchild is ready to be born, and the castle starts collapsing into a tidal wave of black slime. Ghost(s): servants of Castle Strand (class III/IV)
  13. London's Burning (Part 2): ghosts from across the city are being pulled to the roof of the Palace of Westminster, where a rift in space has opened, unleashing unspeakable evil onto the Earth. Harmon Derrell has the team arrested, blaming them for the disappearance of Sarah from her hospital room and the uncontrolled spread of the hauntings. Dempsey's great uncle Sidney pulls some strings at the mayor's office to have them released, and while they wait, the team are met by Daniel McBride, who admits to being their e-mail contact. He has identified the other families Strand used for his experiments, which includes the Derrells, and that Strand has survived to the modern era by inhabiting new bodies every time he reaches the end of his lifespan. Once they're let go, the Ghostbusters race towards Westminster and confront Brayden Strand (in the body of Greta Armbruster) on the roof as he prepares to unshackle Sarah's full potential. Fighting past a squadron of black slime knights and a charged-up Frobisher, they decide to pull a risky move: by crossing their proton streams, the Ghostbusters destroy the portal, severing Sarah's connection to the other dimension. 2020.09.26 19:03 possible2468 Understanding American/Muslim dating dynamics? (respectfully)

Hi! I appreciate anyone who reads this post and gives it some time and care! I previously dated an Egyptian American man and learned some general principles about the Islamic culture and dating at that time.
I myself am an American female (multiracial - Asian and White) who works in a hospital with a Pakistani man (both late 20s). We always stop to chat and I really admire his work ethic, positive disposition and intellect.
He over the past few months we both make an effort to talk often and it seems like he is gently fishing for information (if I am single, what I enjoy doing on the weekends, etc). He’s a very busy man but always makes time for me. I’m usually the one ending the conversations now that I think about it. I could be completely wrong but to me it doesn’t feel like an unrequited love.
He has never mentioned any girlfriend to me, but recently I found out that he apparently has been dating a Pakistani girl who lives about 2 hours away (they met in medical school several years ago). He also never presented her at our hospital meet and greet activities (most people share a photo of a girlfriend or wife at that time). I honestly just assumed that he was single given the context and was a little caught off guard.
I would also think its important to mention that he has a sibling who married a Christian American.
So overall I am just looking for some guidance. Any thoughts?? Also if there is a potential for a relationship here - what should I do next?

2020.09.26 18:50 Noa-AT Blue Skies- Sayori Route: Reviewing the Bun

Overview:
Well, here we are, gamers. After playing through all of Yuri's route, and all of Natsuki's route, there was only one girl left: Sayori. Sayori was a route I was very excited for. She's a close second best girl to me, only slightly behind Yuri. There's also a lot of personality traits I can relate to some extent with Sayori. I don't have clinical depression, but I can understand her feel to want to make everyone smile and not worry about her. After multiple weeks, I can proudly say I have completed all 8 endings Blue Skies has to offer, and I'm now ready to review the final route. Strap in, gamers. Time to dive headfirst into Sayori's route. Obvious spoilers ahead.

TL;DR at the bottom*\*
As per usual, let's list out the structure this review will follow. Feel free to skip to certain parts you're curious on. (or read the whole thing, that's pretty epic too).
Alrighty, let's get to it.

Story:
The overall plot of Sayo's route follows your typical slice of life romance story, however throws in Sayori's depression into the mix. I really enjoyed the overall plotline. MC helping Sayori battle her depression, as well as learning how to help someone suffering from it. Their relationship slowly blossoms from childhood friends reconnecting, to something bigger. MC realizes he's catching feelings for Sayori, and they eventually become a couple. There was also a subplot thrown in in the the form of a bit of a love triangle between MC and Yuri. Yuri is very lonely and latches onto the MC as someone she can talk to, and Sayori gets a bit jealous as her depression tells her how much happier MC would be with Yuri instead. It was a similar basis to the role Sayori played in the other routes, except this time Yuri was in the place of the side girl. This sub plot created some interesting drama between the couple and was used to stir up external conflict. One thing that I applaud this route for doing is something neither the other two routes did. It fucking acknowledged Halloween. In both Yuri's and Natsuki's route I had an issue with Halloween just kinda being inserted into the story and then never being touched upon again. Sayori's route did not do that though. It mentioned Halloween, even if only with some throwaway lines, those said lines really ground the holiday into the story, as opposed to the other routes where it just kinda floated around as a scene in the narrative. The storyline of Sayori and MC was a memorable one overall. Next onto the characters. Now Monika and Natsuki don't do too much in the route. For what they were, their characters were kept in tact. Some of their issues were alluded towards, and Monika even had points where she broke slightly due to stress. These were good moments that really developed her character, even if it had little effect to the overall plot. Yuri is the side character with the most relevance. Swampert did a good job at portraying Yuri, and as a Yurian, I appreciated her presentation. The only odd thing is that she opens up to the MC rather quickly. She is forward in asking to walk home with him, in which he complies, and then she goes on about how she feels lonely. This could just be Yuri being introverted and opening up to the first person willing to listen, or a need to drive the plot, or both. Either way, I really liked Yuri's portrayal, and it makes sense for an introvert like Yuri to grow attached to someone who shows her genuine kindness. The dialogue between MC and her was well written, and her character acted pretty much how I'd expect her to act, which was nice. Lastly is Sayori. In all honesty, this was one of the best representations of Sayori I've seen in a mod. Her bubbly and cheery attitude was present, her childlike innocence was kind and funny, but most importantly, her depression felt real. I'm not a psychiatrist, but her depression was believable, and was a core part of her character rather than a plot device to cause conflict. In every scene I could feel its presence looming over like, as Sayori would describe it, a raincloud. It's obvious Swampert knows his stuff for the most part about mental illness and depression, and it shows with Sayori's character. I also enjoyed how MC's love isn't just the cure all to her depression, and that's a big topic the route emphasizes. It shows that depression is a long and drawn out battle of endurance. I also loved the small details of Sayori's character. Her being sneaky in having MC hold her hands to warm her up because she "forgot" her gloves was a very sweet moment. From the small points, to the larger traits, Sayori's character was well made.
writing:
The writing quality itself was very well done. I was very impressed with how the story was told. The pacing of the mod early on was fantastic. Unlike the other routes, Sayori's route was done completely by one person, which shows in how well it keeps its consistency. As I said, Halloween and Christmas felt like actual events in the story rather than just scenes inserted into it. Act 2 consisted of scenes leading up to each event. Act 3 is where the pacing began to plateau a bit. Where Act 2 was smooth and there was always an event being led up to (i.e Halloween, Christmas) Act 3 was missing that. Each scene just kinda rolled by, and I found Act 2 to be a lot more engaging and memorable than Act 3. Not that Act 3 was bad in any way, just it felt a bit uneventful at times. Overall, Act 2 had great pacing, Act 3 had good pacing as well, but not as engaging as the prior act. The scenes themselves though were a joy to read. There were bits where more sensory language could have been nice, as in describing certain sounds, smells, sights, to really draw in the reader, but those aren't always fully necessary, more so enhancers. Not having them doesn't take away from the story in any way. There were a good amount of memorable scenes. I absolutely loved the Christmas scene where she tricked MC into meeting her underneath the mistletoe. Another thing that was executed very well were the flashbacks. The flashbacks with MC and Sayori as children were very wholesome and made me laugh a few times. They captured the childhood innocence perfectly, and added to the dynamic of MC and Sayori. They even created a feeling of nostalgia, despite the memories MC was reliving not being my own. There's only two points I have for the flashbacks, and they're more nitpicks than anything. 1. It would've been nice for there to be more. I think the flashback scenes were some of the more interesting moments in the route, and having one or two more would've been great, but not overdone. Once MC and Sayori get together, the flashbacks practically stop, and it was kinda sad not seeing their childhood memories anymore. 2. The flashbacks oftentimes were put in odd places. One thing to make flashbacks seem more grounded and not just placed in is to have triggers. Triggers are physical objects, smells, noises, etc. that remind a character of a specific event that triggers the flashback, hence the name. These weren't super present when a flashback happened, instead it was just 'okay, MC is going to remember this time when he ate ice cream with Sayori'. It would've been neat if say, a classmate sprayed on Cinnamon scented perfume, and it triggered MC's flashback (basic example, but hopefully it gets the points across). Anyway, another point where the mod shines is in its dialogue. The banter between MC and Sayori was gold. They have those playful and teasing moments like childhood friends do, and they also have some intimate moments as a couple. MC's cheesy compliments he threw around were very cheesy, but they still made me smile. And the serious moments when MC demonstrated that he was trying his best was also authentic and heartfelt. The dialogue between characters is where Swampert's writing skills really shine, creating genuine and enjoyable interactions between characters.
Art & Music:
I've gone over the music in the previous reviews. To reiterate, I said I liked the soundtracks overall, but none stood out to me and they all kinda get muddled together. That was until I played Sayori's route. There was one track that hit me, out of the entirety of the three routes I played. The track named 'Out of Reach'. I liked this track for one main reason, and this plays into how small details make the biggest impact. This track has a rain sound effect overlay., and it plays only when a character (90% of the time is Sayori) is having a depressive episode. The reason why it's so genius is because Sayori often refers to her depressive thoughts as 'rainclouds' so having actual rainclouds playing over during a track that plays when she has depressive thoughts is such a great use of symbolism. (Btw, I really hope this was done intentionally otherwise this part of the review is gonna be big awkward, lol). Now onto the art. First and foremost, the sprites are epic as always, but the route had an issue with certain sprites. Most notably, during the evening. None of the sprites in the route were filtered to be shadowed during dark scenes, so we have a dark background, and a normal lit character sprite. It breaks from the immersion at times. (Also idk if this is fixed in the latest release so if it is ignore my spiel). As for the CGs, they were pretty good. The first one with Sayori being tickled was nice. It served the purpose it was meant to serve. The Christmas kiss was heartwarming. I'm mixed about having half the CG be the background that was used (I had this problem in Natsuki's bad ending as well), but it wasn't bad. The overall concept with the mistletoe in the corner and MC and Sayori sharing a kiss put a smile on my face nonetheless. Lastly is the h scene CG. It existed I suppose. It was well drawn for the most part, but, and this seemed to be a recurring issue in other CGs in the other routes as well, the perspective just seemed off. The perspective made it look like Sayori dislocated her shoulder to wrap around MC lmao. It really made the h scene kinda wonky imo. Other than the weird perspective though, it was nicely drawn.
Miscellaneous:
So this will just be some random points I had that don't fit in a category, or I felt should just be quickly touched upon here. Firstly technical errors (again I'm not playing on the latest release cause I'm a clown, so if these were fixed my bad). There were points when the writing switched between American and British English which broke the immersion. There were the aforementioned character sprites not being properly lit. Music would not fade properly. A track would suddenly cut out and a new track would begin. This was especially jarring when the two tracks had very different tones to them. Anyway, those were really the errors that were noticeable. Moving on to other points, the side characters. Shiori was basically non existent in this route. Like, I don't remember a single scene with her where MC and her spoke. It's just kinda odd to have a side character that's mentioned but never used. Emi at times felt a bit like a plot device. I do appreciate how this route used Emi more than the other routes, really developing her characters. (Nice references to KS. Shoutout to my boy, Hisao). But at times she really did feel like a way to move the plot or have MC say his thoughts out loud. MomC was a good and effective side character. The fact that she said she also dated someone with depression struck me as a bit to convenient for the situation. The fact that she has experienced a similar situation to MC- not saying it isn't possible, but still very convenient. Also at times MomC just felt like a surrogate, as in the way she expressed her views about how society views mental health. While her points are valid, it felt more like the author's comment than her own. Other than that however, I really enjoyed the MomC character, and her dynamic with MC. And she plays a large role in the story, especially in an ending we'll cover later. One last thing is that this route had the least amount of player input out of the other routes. Unlike Yuri's which has 8 choices, and 6 are needed to get her good ending, or Natsuki, who has an entire damn flowchart for hers, Sayori's route only had 1-2 choices that mattered. I don't think this is a bad way to use choices, but it is odd that it's different than the other routes. In the end I think the way you use choices depends on the story. Some people prefer choice heavy narratives, while others prefer more kinetic experiences. Neither one is wrong, just felt I'd point it out since that's what this category is for.
Bad Ending:
Now onto the endings. Let's start with the bad one. This was the one I got on my 2nd run, as I got the good ending first. It's a bit harder to accidentally get than the other girls' bad endings since you have to make the wrong decision twice. I really enjoyed the writing of this ending, though. There's a few points I want to make. Let's begin at Valentine's Day, as that's pretty much where the bad ending starts. Sayori is not in the mood to go out, and MC kinda pushes her to open up, and it escalates into an argument. A lot of venom is spit out of each person's mouth, and it was an intense read. I loved it. It's always a joy to see high tension scenes of characters going at each other cause it shows the emotional weight each one is feeling, and also shows how none of the characters are perfect. They're human, and their emotions blind them. They say hurtful things. This eventually spirals down over the course of a few scenes and to the point where Sayori decides it's best for MC and her to break-up, which was a saddening moment. After playing the other bad endings, I already knew Sayori's fate for this ending. However, how it played out surprised me. Instead of MC committing "I gently open door" it was MomC. After MC and Sayori break-up, MC is sad, and MomC offers to go talk to Sayori to see if she can make amends. She then comes back distraught, and drops the bomb that Sayori hanged herself. I both liked, and didn't like this presentation. Here's why. On one hand, I like the subversion of expectations. We've all seen MC walk in on Sayori cosplaying a piñata countless of times. Having MomC be the one to do it was a nice turn of events. Did it make the overall reveal better, though? I honestly have mixed feelings on it. I wasn't hit super hard when I found out Sayori was dead. Now this could be that I'm an emotionless husk of a human being I already knew Sayori was going to die, or that the presentation didn't really do a good job at having an impact. Perhaps if there was a bit more suspense, or played around more with MomC's dialogue or MC's confusion as to why she was in his room, it could've sold it. I did however like his initial state of denial about Sayori as it was sad and realistic. Moving onto the falling action and resolution, it has one of the most memorable scenes to me in the whole route. The scene with MC looking at the picture Sayori gave him for Christmas. The smiling young duo showing off Sayori's new cow plushie- it was beautiful. One of the things I always like to tell people is that what's more sad than the actual tragic event (i.e Sayori dying) are the reactions of those affected by it. This ending nailed that perfectly. MC reflecting on his past with Sayori and wishing he could go back in time. Him lashing out at the other members of the Literature Club. It was a well done execution of showing the early stages of grievance. With all the those pieces together, it made for a hard-hitting conclusion.
Good Ending:
Alrighty, this was the ending I got first. Like the last one, there's some mixed opinions on it. Like previously, let's begin on Valentine's Day. Same scene plays, except this time MC is a lot more understanding. He doesn't pressure Sayori, and accepts that he just won't get a Valentine's date. It's the harsh reality of dating someone with depression in that it doesn't have a vacation for holidays or events. Yuri then asks MC to hang out, and he responds in that he's busy, lying since he doesn't want to hang out with Yuri because Sayori would get jealous (communication go brr). He goes for a walk and sees, guess who, Yuri. Cue very big awkward tension. A few more scenes go on, then we get to my biggest issue with the ending. The climax, or, lack thereof. The highest point of tension in this ending was when Sayori and MC confront Yuri about what's going on. Sayori comes out about her depression, and they clear up all misunderstandings. Everyone is on good terms again. While I liked this scene a lot, it didn't feel like a good climactic point. I honestly don't even know if it was intended to be one, in which case the ending has no climax at all. By and large, a climax is the point in the story where internal and external conflict reach their highest points, and this really didn't feel like that. The Yuri love triangle was a subplot, and a subplot should never overshadow the main plot, which it felt like it did here. I think the good ending would've been more effective if Valentine's played out similarly to how it did in the bad ending, Sayori and MC fighting, falling out, and then reconnecting. Main plot solved, then come back to the subplot and have them make amends with Yuri. I think having the couple have that high moment of tension in the good ending would make them getting back together and solving their problems much more rewarding. This is similar to Yuri's good ending which may be why they chose not to do it, but I digress. The rest of the ending played out very nicely. I really enjoyed the club picnic scene. It was a touching and lighthearted moment with all the characters bonding and growing closer to each other. It even gives a hope to the future as they all promise to continue growing the club next year. Now onto the last bit, the final day. I've read a fair amount of people that have mixed reactions towards this day, but I overall liked the final day. Sayori takes MC to a nice date to make up for Valentine's Day, coincidentally, the same place he was planning on taking her (thanks, Monika). Afterwards they share a kiss under the moonlight. Now, I only got this when I played the bad ending. In that ending, Sayori has a line where she wishes they could have kissed under the moonlight. That made thinking back about this moment so very sweet. Finally the two arrive home, and we get the h scene. I already commented on the art, but the writing of it was nice. Especially since the route teased it so much in other scenes. The build-up felt natural, and the act was pleasant. Then they climax, there's a bit of dialogue, and then route done. As mentioned prior, some people felt this ending was kinda rushed, but I personally didn't feel that. It reminded me of Emi's route in Katawa Shoujo which ends in similar fashion (I'm probably biased cause I mega simp for Emi and ain't afraid to admit to it). It definitely could have had a bit more, like maybe another scene in an epilogue style fashion, but I don't think the current ending was bad. If Swampert really wanted to he could've expanded it, but it wasn't necessary. I believe it ends on a very pleasant note, and gives a good outlook on the future of the two.
Conclusion and Overall Impression/TL;DR:
All in all, Sayori's route was very enjoyable to go through. I was completely hooked in during Act 2. In Act 3 the story got a bit slow, but it never lost me. The dialogue between characters is high quality, and the route is full of memorable scenes. I have a few mixed feelings about both endings, but neither ending was bad in any right. Sayori's representation was one of the best and most authentic representation I've seen in a DDLC mod. The relationship between her and MC felt natural, and had its share of highs and lows. Overall, Sayori's route in Blue Skies was a fantastic experience. It was an enjoyable read, and I believe there's a lot of life lessons that can be learned from it about how mental illness affects people, and how someone who doesn't suffer from it can help someone who does. It was no doubt a well made story, and is sure to please anyone looking for a good Sayori route. If you have any other opinions, things you agree or disagree with, things I might have missed, overlooked, or misinterpreted, feel fee to say it in the comments. I like to keep an open mind and see how others' views differ or coincide with my own.
Closing:
With the review done, I just want to say some closing statements regarding the mod as a whole, and addressing the team. As I said at the beginning, I went through all 8 endings and saw basically everything this mod had to offer. I can say without a doubt I don't regret a single bit of it. I waited for Blue Skies since 2018! And after near 2 years I of course had sky-high expectations. I think it's safe to say that my expectations were definitely met, and in a few instances, surpassed. Blue Skies truly is a fantastic mod, all round. From the realistic takes on the routes, to the effort put into all the assets. It's obviously not perfect and has its flaws, but they don't bring down the experience as a whole. I believe the final product speaks for itself. The 28 months this project was in the works was not in vain. I've kinda separated myself from playing DDLC mods and have since moved on to original VN's, but I came back just to play Blue Skies. Adding to that, after playing a large handful of different visual novels, some by professional studios, I'd say my standards for a solid story are fairly critical. The fact that I've written now 3 in depth reviews hopefully says something. I think the team behind the mod are very talented, and hope at least some of my feedback will be helpful in the future. Regardless, I'll be keeping an eye out to see what any of the team members do in the future, be it together, or solo. So, of course, thank you to everyone who had a hand in the mod, and also thank you to anyone who actually spent the time to read my reviews, lmao. It means a lot, and I hope it does a good job at showing my appreciation towards this mod. With all that said, I think I can finally bring my Blue Skies review trilogy to a close. Until next time, gamers.

2020.09.26 18:34 Throwaway249567 My Boyfriend's [28M] Brother [25M] Uninvited Me [26F] From His Wedding

My boyfriend and I have been 'official' since about February of this year but we have been seeing each other for almost two years and have been talking marriage. He is the best man at his brother's wedding that's happening today. I have been invited to the wedding since they announced the date and everything has been set. In our province we have new guidelines that indoor gatherings have been limited to 10 and outdoor gatherings to 25 due to coronavirus. Three days ago my boyfriend came into the room after talking on the phone with his brother and told me that I "Unfortunately didn't make the cut and that the wedding has been reduced to immediate family only and 4-5 friends each of the bride and groom". It felt like an immediate gut punch and I left to go to the bedroom and I felt completely shattered.
For a bit of background I have been severely depressed for about two months during the pandemic, my family always does their 'tough love' bit and leaves me alone to deal with it myself. My boyfriend has been spending everyday with me and letting me cry and do nothing everyday. I lost my job near the beginning of the pandemic and I haven't spent much time with my friends amidst all of this. My only real support system has been when we go and visit his family and I was looking forward to this wedding so much because it felt like a chance to finally become a part of a family unit. Every time we went there his parents and sister would talk about the wedding and how excited they were to have me there, his dad is cooking the meal for it and his mom is making the pies, my boyfriend and his sister are giving a speech and they planned on decorating the entire fridge afterwards with pictures of the wedding and were excited to have me be in the pictures.
I had already been feeling down and this added on top of everything felt overwhelming. The darker thoughts immediately entered my head and I was looking towards spending thanksgiving, christmas, easter with all of them after being uninvited and I felt like it was going to hurt way too much. I told my boyfriend that I didn't want to go to Thanksgiving this year (because its in two weeks and I felt like the feelings would be too raw, plus I'm native so it felt kind of weird to be going anyway) and said I would likely feel more up to American Thanksgiving in November and Christmas but wasn't sure. He blew up at me and he left early to go to his parents house without my for the week two hours away. We talked on the phone afterwards and I told him that I respected their decision in uninviting me, I understand that it would have been a hard decision but to me it felt like a total rejection. None of his family reached out to me and I had to hear that I was uninvited secondhand. He told me on the phone that he talked to his brother and that he was not going to apologize to me. I didn't even want an apology, I wanted to have a conversation long after the wedding the next time we saw each other to talk about it together about how it really hurt that they don't consider me family.
My boyfriend later went on the phone and blamed me for everything that has been going on the past few months. From pressuring him into sex before marriage ( his family is very religious) I don't feel like I did, I told him that I wanted to but I was totally willing to wait and asked him a hundred different times if he was 100% sure before we did. He blamed me for his friends not talking to him anymore even though I have been the one encouraging him to reach out to them but he always refused. He blamed me for him gaining weight and not exercising anymore because of my depression. He blamed me for him not going to church much anymore, him not going to bible study and him not reading his bible as much anymore.
I'm sorry for the long rambling post but I'm really just exhausted from the fighting and the hurt feelings. I really do want them to have an amazing day and I'm so happy for them. I just feel like the way my boyfriend has completely distorted my feelings to them that I am now just always going to be 'that girl' to the family. Is there any salvaging this relationship with my boyfriend or even his family?
TL;DR, my boyfriend's brother uninvited me to his wedding three days before it was happening

2020.09.26 08:30 eire1979au My request for BAE's ASIO file to be digitised is complete. Here it is.

The file is held at the National Archives and is available to the public. I paid to have it digitised and now you can look it up online. I had been worried it was just going to be ASIO's information on his involvement with the Committee for Democracy in Australia and about his Communist leanings. But, thankfully there is a bit more than that. Below I have set out what each of the documents in the file includes. It's 86 pages long, so it might take you a while to get through it. I have highlighted in bold below what I consider to be the most important parts of the file.
The image begins at the end of the file which is probably better for our purposes as it dates from 1965 to 1975, and he was only arrested for the crimes in 1974.
The file is now public and can be found here.
Enjoy!
Contents of file inlcude the following:
  1. A personal particulars document including BAE's DOB, job and address; his wife's maiden name, DOB and place of birth.
  2. Document detailling extracts from the of the Senate Select Committee on Civil Rights of Migrant Australians. Elkner is mentioned in his role as a supporter of Marjan Jurjevic (the guy who the Ustashi bombed in Melbourne because he identified as a Yugoslav).
  3. ASIO intelligence report leaked by an agent who had infiltrated the Communist Party of Australia detailing the names and addresses of subscribers to the CPA newspaper "Tribune", one of whom was Dr. BAE.
  4. Newspaper article from The Age dated 19/10/1974, titled "Lecturer had sex fantasies, gaoled". I don't think any of us has seen this before (possibly not on Newspapers.com). Fascinating article, gives more details about BAE's sentencing "non-parole period of five years". Gives more details about rapes: "tied up six girls and assaulted five and raped one...common features of the assaults included entering the victims homes by trickery, tieing their ankles and hands, threatening them with a knife, threatening to kill them, and in three cases, cutting their clothing with scissors". Psychiatrist Dr. L. M. Marinovich said "Elkner was now getting medication to control his problem". Elkner's lawyer, Mr. John Phillips, said "the rape victim was an 18 year old Arts student at Melbourne University, who Elkner knew".
  5. ASIO hand-written memo detailing BAE's links with a woman he had invited to join the Committee for Democracy in Australia.
  6. Newspaper article from The Herald dated 18/10/1974, titled "UNI MAN HAD SEX FANTASY - COURT TOLD". (Note, some of the article is faded and difficult to make out). I don't think any of us has seen this before (possibly not on Newspapers.com). I think it says "a pair of scissors involved in rape". The attacks occurred "at different homes in Brighton, one at Elsternwick, one at Murumbeena and one at Carnegie". Lawyer Phillips said "Elkner was married with three children aged from three to eight years". "The rape victim - a girl student in the same faculty at Melbourne University - had suffered bruising to the head and scratches." Mr Phillips also said: "There were people struck in some of the other cases and it may well be that some injury was inflicted". Then there is an interview with the Deputy Dean of Arts at Melbourne University, Mr Ronald Francis Jackson, who states that he had known BAE since he was undergraduate in 1959, and mentions how well-respected BAE is. 2020.09.26 08:09 AdequateSizeAttache Setting the Record Straight on the Evidence of Prior Sexual Abuse - Part 1

[This post has been split into two parts because of selfpost character limits.]

Introduction

It surprises me how often I see discussions involving speculation on whether JonBenet's UTIs, vaginitis, bedwetting, and history of frequent doctor visits indicate sexual abuse or not. These discussions invariably include people chiming in to share how they or someone they know had similar issues but were never abused. From these discussions, one could get the impression that itchy pageant costumes or Mr. Bubble useage are perfectly reasonable explanations for the evidence of sexual abuse.
The fact is, there's no need to speculate based on these things. There is physical evidence of prior sexual abuse. This is the evidence that should be at the forefront of discussions on the question of sexual abuse, not bubble baths or bedwetting. Issues such as vaginitis, UTIs, and bedwetting are not specific to sexual abuse; there are other possible explanations for them. There is no other possible explanation for the physical evidence besides trauma from physical penetration.
In reading discussions on the case over the years, it's always puzzled me how often the evidence of prior sexual abuse gets downplayed or dismissed. In considering why, I believe it is due primarily to these two common misconceptions:
Common Misconception 1 (as demonstrated above): The evidence of sexual abuse = vaginal irritation, UTIs, rashes, bedwetting, soiling, frequent doctor visits
Common Misconception 2: There is a medical debate on the issue and there's evidence to support both sides
Common Misconception 1 is a straw man argument — the actual evidence (the physical findings) is not being addressed or refuted.
Common Misconception 2 is an argument from false equivalence. An equal, rather than accurate, amount of weight is given to both sides of the issue. People see the mountain of conflicting information and contradicting opinions and think "It looks like expert opinion on this issue is divided; I guess a case can be made for either side." The enormous difference in expertise and experience between the various experts is ignored, as is the level of access they had to the evidence. This misconception gives the impression that all these expert opinions cancel each other out, rendering the issue debatable and open to interpretation. Consequently, the probative value of the evidence is undermined, making it easier for people to feel they can dismiss.
I think several factors have contributed to these two misconceptions:
However, if one takes a closer look at the evidence, it becomes apparent that it is not weighted equally on both sides. There is no medical debate, but a medical consensus. Every child sexual abuse expert who examined the genital findings from JonBenet's autopsy recognized physical signs of sexual abuse that predated her murder. Despite some objections to their conclusion, no one has disputed the physical findings of these experts. Their findings are compelling and should be seriously considered. In order to do that, though, one must first understand what the findings are and get acquainted with the doctors who testified to them.
The purpose of this post is to lay out everything that is known about the evidence of prior sexual abuse, but also to put it into a larger context so that hopefully it will be better understood. This will involve delving a bit into the history of child sexual abuse evaluations (it will become relevant later), as well as some background information of the experts involved. I will also go over dissenting opinions and address some common counterarguments and myths.

The evolution of modern pediatric sexual abuse evaluations: A brief historical timeline

1857 - One of the first known forensic medical studies on child sexual abuse, Étude médico-légale sur les attentats aux mœurs (Forensic study on offenses against morals) by French medical doctor and pathologist Auguste Ambroise Tardieu, is published. This treatise describes various forms of child abuse and maltreatment and includes anatomical drawings of genital findings which by modern standards are considered surprisingly accurate and ahead of its time. For some reason these efforts are largely ignored and it will be over a century before interest in sexual abuse evaluations from a medical perspective is resurrected.
1940s-50s - Child sexual abuse remains an unacknowledged taboo. Medical textbooks of this era tell doctors that children can contract STIs like gonorrhea from non-sexual means, such as from toilet seats, sharing towels, or sleeping in the same bed as an infected adult. Such myths will pervade for decades.
1962 - "The Battered Child Syndrome" by pediatrician C. Henry Kempe is published and physical child abuse is recognized. A watershed moment in pediatrics and child abuse protection. This article is about detecting hidden signs of physical abuse using modern radiological technology and newly proposed evaluation guidelines. Detecting chronic or hidden sexual abuse, however, will prove to be a more enduring challenge.
Late 1960s - By now all 50 states have child abuse protection laws in place.
1970s - Feminist campaigners and policymakers take up the cause of child sexual abuse. Most child protection workers during this period are social workers and therapists. The field of child abuse protection and evaluation is in its nascency.
1974 - Congress enacts the Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA, P.L. 93-247). CAPTA creates a nationwide focus on establishing standardized protocols for dealing with all forms of child abuse and neglect. Mandatory reporting is one component of CAPTA. Before, only doctors were required to report cases of suspected child abuse; now, it is anyone in a position of authority — teachers, camp counselors, etc. Consequently, there is a significant increase in the reporting of child abuse cases and an increase in the demand of evaluations for suspected sexual abuse. Most of the physicians doing these medical evaluations are not researchers or academics but work with prosecutor's offices and law enforcement.
1975 - Suzanne M. Sgroi, physician pioneer in the field, publishes an article calling child sexual abuse "the last frontier in child abuse" which "remains a taboo topic in many areas."
1977 - C. Henry Kempe brings awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse by following up "The Battered Child Syndrome" with a landmark lecture at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics in New York City. The talk, titled "Sexual Abuse, Another Hidden Pediatric Problem" is published in the journal Pediatrics the following year.
1980s - Doctors start examining children's genitals, documenting, cataloging and trying to interpret their findings. Some use a colposcope, a binocular-like instrument originally used to detect cervical cancer, which magnifies the vaginal canal and tissues up to 4-30x. Some take anatomical measurements which they use to develop criteria for suspected abuse. They know what findings they see in abused children, but there is an acute lack of understanding of what "normal" or nonabused genital findings look like.
1981 - The article "Sexual Misuse: Rape, Molestation, and Incest" by Dr. Bruce Woodling is published in the journal Pediatric Clinics of North America.
Dr. Woodling is a California physician whose area of specialty is in sexual abuse forensics. The paper presents his research on what he has dubbed the "wink response test", a concept borrowed from Tardieu's 19th-century forensic manual. This test involves stroking the area near the anus with a cotton swab and gauging the response — contraction of the sphincter indicates no abuse, while an involuntary opening or 'winking' response indicates prior penetration. It was a test Tardieu developed to diagnose pederasty and Woodling has applied it to children as a way to detect anal abuse.
1982 - The wave of daycare sexual abuse hysteria of the 80s begins with the Kern County abuse allegations. The investigation and trial will culminate in the conviction of two couples (the McCuans and Kniffens) for sexually abusing several children. Dr. Woodling's wink response test and testimony play a part in their conviction. Several other similar cases in the same area at the time result in convictions of several others.
1984 - Daycare abuse hysteria continues with the Fells Acres and McMartin Preschool accusations. In the Fells Acre case, day care teacher Gerald Amirault will be put on trial and convicted of sexually assaulting and raping nine children. Questionable interview methods of the children and unproven genital evaluation criteria form the basis for the conviction.
The McMartin preschool case is the first to receive major media attention in the United States. Pediatrician Astrid Heger, under the tutelage of Dr. Bruce Woodling, conducts many of the evaluations of the McMartin children and diagnoses the majority of them as having been sexually abused. The criteria used for the evaluations are based primarily on Woodling's research as well as other published papers at the time (e.g., Cantwell's 1983 study on hymenal diameter measurements). Many of the children are found to have suspect genital findings such as notches, clefts, bands, tissue tags, ruffled or rolled hymenal edges, 'microtraumas' seen only with magnification, hymenal openings which measure over four millimeters, as well as positive reactions to Woodling's wink response test.
mid to late 80s - More abuse allegations and convictions including Country Walk, Wee Nursery, Bronx Five, Little Rascals day care, Glendale Montessori cases.
1988 - Dr. John McCann, a pediatrics professor and researcher from UCSF School of Medicine, drops a bombshell at the 18th annual child abuse convention in San Diego. He presents the results of a study he and his colleagues have worked on the past four years. They had gathered a control group of about 300 nonabused/"normal" children and meticulously documented and photographed their anuses and genitals, the first such study to do so. What they learned shocked McCann and everyone else in the field. Many of the anatomic findings which some specialists were claiming to be signs of abuse were commonly found in the nonabused children. The study showed that the large variation of anatomical features of childrens' genitals were, in fact, just that — variations of normal. This meant that parents and caretakers were being reported and convicted based on erroneous unscientific criteria. This presentation, titled "Anatomical Standardization of Normal Prepubertal Children," is a watershed moment in the field.
1989 - The first paper based on McCann's study ("Perianal findings in prepubertal children selected for nonabuse: a descriptive study") is published in the journal Child Abuse & Neglect. Among its conclusions, it shows that Dr. Woodling's wink response test has no scientific basis.
The impact of McCann's study influences leaders in the field to call for an overhaul in the way sexual abuse evaluation criteria are approached:
Medical Examination for Sexual Abuse: Have We Been Misled?
The more we learn, the less we know "with reasonable medical certainty"?
1990s - This decade sees an explosion of research and progress. The second paper based on McCanns' landmark study ("Genital findings in prepubertal girls selected for nonabuse: a descriptive study") is published in the journal Pediatrics in 1990. The dropping of charges in the McMartin preschool trial, also in 1990, marks the beginning of the winding down of the nation's abuse hysteria. McCann's research is presented as evidence by the defense in some abuse trials, such as the McMartin and Little Rascals daycare cases.
1992 - A classification system for evaluating children for suspected sexual abuse is proposed by Dr. Joyce Adams, Katherine Harper and Sandra Knudson. This later becomes known as the Adams classification system (keep this system in mind as we will be referring back to it) and will be periodically revised with updated criteria throughout the following decades. It will be adopted and used in the field of child abuse pediatrics and gynecology worldwide. John McCann's research help form a basis for this system.
mid to late 90s - More research based on cross-sectional, case-control, and longitudinal studies of abused and nonabused children are published which improves understanding and accuracy of evaluation criteria: Berenson, Heger, Adams, Emans, Kellogg, Kerns, McCann, Muram, Finkel, etc. Due to the errors of the previous decade, specialists in the field are highly conscientious and prudent about differentiating nonabuse from abuse criteria.

The evidence of prior sexual abuse in the JonBenet Ramsey case: What we know

When Boulder County Coroner Dr. John Meyer performed JonBenet's autopsy, he identified signs of acute vaginal trauma which he believed was consistent with digital penetration. What we didn't find out until the publication of James Kolar's book Foreign Faction in 2012 is that Dr. Meyer also saw indications of prior sexual contact. Concerned about this possibility, he sought a specialist opinion and brought Dr. Andrew Sirotnak to the morgue to examine JonBenet's genital injuries. Dr. Sirotnak was a child abuse pediatrician who headed the Child Protection Team at Children's Hospital Colorado. He confirmed Meyer's opinion that there were signs of prior sexual contact.
Here are the relevant passages from Kolar's book:
  • Dr. Meyer also observed signs of chronic inflammation around the vaginal orifice and believed that these injuries had been inflicted in the days or weeks before the acute injury that was responsible for causing the bleeding at the time of her death. This irritation appeared consistent with prior sexual contact.
[Foreign Faction: Who Really Kidnapped JonBenet?, A. James Kolar, p. 58]
  • Following the meeting, Dr. Meyer returned to the morgue with Dr. Andy Sirontak, Chief of Denver Children's Hospital Child Protection Team, so that a second opinion could be rendered on the injuries observed to the vaginal area of JonBenet. He would observe the same injuries that Dr. Meyer had noted during the autopsy protocol and concurred that a foreign object had been inserted into the opening of JonBenet's vaginal orifice and was responsible for the acute injury witnessed at the 7:00 o'clock position. Further inspection revealed that the hymen was shriveled and retracted, a sign that JonBenet had been subjected to some type of sexual contact prior to the date of her death. Dr. Sirontak could not provide an opinion as to how old those injuries were or how many times JonBenet may have been assaulted and would defer to the expert opinions of other medical examiners.
    [Kolar, p. 61]
  • Dr. Meyer was concerned about JonBenet's vaginal injuries, and he, along with Boulder investigators, sought the opinions of a variety of other physicians in the days following her autopsy. Dr. Sirontak, a pediatrician with Denver Children's Hospital, had recognized signs of prior sexual trauma but neither he nor Dr. Meyer were able to say with any degree of certainty what period of time may have been involved in the abuse.
    [Kolar, p. 63]
Boulder Police would later ask several child sexual abuse experts to review the autopsy findings* in order to help them determine if there was evidence of prior sexual abuse. In addition to Andrew Sirotnak, these are the experts whom we know were consulted:
Richard Krugman
James Monteleone
Valerie Rao
John McCann
That's right — that John McCann. The same John McCann who was responsible for putting child sexual abuse evaluations onto scientific footing and who happened to establish the standards for what is considered normal and abnormal in pediatric genital exams was consulted on the JonBenet Ramsey case.
In Steve Thomas's 2001 deposition for the Wolf v Ramsey civil trial, Thomas says that McCann came recommended by the FBI. There's a reason for that, which is that McCann was regarded as one of the the foremost authorities on interpreting pediatric anogenital findings in cases of suspected abuse. Thomas also refers to McCann, Monteleone, and Rao as the "blue ribbon pediatric panel." Based on various sources, we know that there was at least one meeting in Boulder in September 1997 involving McCann, Rao, Monteleone, and Krugman.
Here is the relevant passage from Thomas's book:
In mid-September, a panel of pediatric experts from around the country reached one of the major conclusions of the investigation - that JonBenet had suffered vaginal trauma prior to the day she was killed.
There were no dissenting opinions among them on the issue, and they firmly rejected any possibility that the trauma to the hymen and chronic vaginal inflammation were caused by urination issues or masturbation. We gathered affidavits stating in clear language that there were injuries "consistent with prior trauma and sexual abuse"...."There was chronic abuse"..."Past violation of the vagina"...."Evidence of both acute injury and chronic sexual abuse." In other words, the doctors were saying it had happened before.
...
The results, however, were not what is known in the legal world as "conclusive" - which means that there can be no other interpretation - and I would fully expect defense lawyers to argue something different. Nevertheless, our highly qualified doctors had brought in a remarkable finding.
[JonBenet: Inside the Ramsey Murder Investigation, Steve Thomas & Don Davis, p. 253]
The experts expected to testify in court had the case gone to trial. As we know, there was no criminal trial, but we know the experts were called to testify before the grand jury.
*During JonBenet's autopsy, an instrument called a colposcope was used to examine and document her genital injuries. This is standard procedure in forensic pathology in cases of suspected child abuse or sexual assault. Colposcopy illuminates and magnifies the vaginal cavity and is used to identify abnormal changes to tissue and the internal genital structures. The experts would have relied on these colposcopic photos as well as histologic samples of JonBenet's vaginal mucosa in addition to the autopsy report, coroner's notes, and lab results.

The physical findings explained

These are the genital findings we know were discovered at JonBenet's autopsy:
Ref. no. Finding Source
1 Chronic inflammation around vaginal orifice FF
2 Small amount of dried blood on perineum AR
3 Small amount of dried and semifluid blood on skin of fourchette and in vestibule AR
4 Hyperemia of vestibule and vaginal wall AR
5 Abrasion on hymenal orifice at 7 o'clock position, involving the hymen and vaginal wall AR
6 Epithelial erosion with underlying capillary congestion of tissue from 7'oclock AR
7 Hymenal orifice measuring 1cm x 1cm AR
8 A lack of hymenal tissue between the 10 and 2 o'clock positions AR
9 Vascular congestion and focal interstitial chronic inflammation of vaginal mucosa AR
10 Bruise on hymen BP
11 Three dimensional thickening from inside to outside of inferior hymenal rim BP
12 Narrowing of inferior hymenal rim to base of hymen BP
13 Exposure of vaginal rugae BP
AR = Autopsy Report
BP = Bonita Papers
FF = Foreign Faction
What do these physical findings mean?
Here is a quick break down:
  • 5, 6, and 10, with corresponding bleeding 2 and 3, are signs of acute trauma from the time of the murder.
  • 7 is something that gets brought up as evidence of prior abuse ("enlarged hymenal opening"). However, criteria based on hymenal opening measurements were removed from the Adams classification guidelines in 1996. McCann did not include it in his criteria for abuse, but said it supported the findings for abuse. Since the late 90s/early 2000s, specialists have tried to move away from using measurement-based criteria as it is difficult to do precisely. Research data has shown that measurements can vary with the examination position, technique, age of the child, state of relaxation of the child, and the skill of the examiner.
  • 8 describes a crescentic hymen, a common variation of hymen types. This is a normal finding. Generally, discrepancies of the anterior half of the hymen (above the 3 and 9 o'clock positions) are not considered concerning and missing segments, notches, clefts can be normal findings. It is the inferior half of the hymen (below the 3 and 9 o'clock positions) where experts look for indicators of abuse.
  • 11-13 are findings observed by John McCann that describe structural changes of the hymen from a prior penetration. 12 describes a transection (a healed laceration) of the inferior portion of the hymen.
  • 1, 4, 9 can be caused by a variety of other conditions and on their own are not classified as indicators for abuse. In the case where findings indicating abuse are also present, they need to be considered in context.
McCann's findings
The most important of these findings to understand is 12, which is one of McCann's observations outlined in the Bonita Papers.
There was a three dimensional thickening from inside to outside on the inferior hymeneal rim with a bruise apparent on the external surface of the hymen and a narrowing of the hymeneal rim from the edge of the hymen to where it attaches to the muscular portion of the vaginal openings. At the narrowing area, there appeared to be very little if any hymen present.
To understand what this means, take a look at the white line segment labeled "Hymenal width" in this colposcopic photo (warning: image of vagina/hymen). It demarcates the length of the hymenal membrane from the rim/edge to the base where it attaches to the vaginal wall.
A narrowing of the hymenal rim means the hymenal membrane is reduced in dimension from the rim/edge toward the base. When the rim is narrowed all the way to the base, that is called a complete cleft or a transection. A transection is a discontinuity of the inferior hymenal rim that extends to or through the base of the hymen. Basically, it is a telltale residual absence of tissue from a healed complete laceration.
If this is difficult to visualize, here is a figure which shows what transections look like:
Figure 3: Hymenal Membrane Characteristics
[source]
The Adams classification system
In the fields of child abuse pediatrics and pediatric gynecology, the set of guidelines most widely used in interpreting genital findings is the Adams classification system.
If we were to look at the most recently revised version (2018), we would see that it identifies certain "findings caused by trauma":
These findings are highly suggestive of abuse, even in the absence of a disclosure from the child, unless the child and/or caretaker provides a timely and plausible description of accidental anogenital straddle, crush or impalement injury, or past surgical interventions that are confirmed from review of medical records.
Among those findings that are "highly suggestive of abuse" includes point 37, listed in the subsection titled "Residual (healing) injuries to genital/anal tissues" under section E:
Healed hymenal transection/complete hymen cleft, a defect in the hymen below the 3-9 o'clock location that extends to or through the base of the hymen, with no hymenal tissue discernible at that location
This is precisely what Dr. McCann described having observed in JonBenet.
A transection in the inferior half of the hymen of a prepubertal child is a significant finding because it is considered a clear indication of a prior penetrating injury:
  • Multiple studies have noted the presence of hymenal transections only in prepubertal girls with a history of disclosed sexual abuse.
[ Sara T. Stewart, MD. Hymenal Characteristics in Girls with and without a History of Sexual Abuse, p. 533]
  • Hymenal transections are very rarely seen in prepubertal girls who have not been sexually abused. However, a demonstrated transection, based on multiple studies, is commonly viewed as “a clear but uncommon indicator of past trauma.”
[Mishori, R., Ferdowsian, H., Naimer, K. et al. The little tissue that couldn’t – dispelling myths about the Hymen’s role in determining sexual history and assault.]
  • Thus a deep notch, transection, or perforation on the inferior portion of the hymen may be considered as a definitive sign of sexual abuse or other trauma.
[Berenson, et al. A case-control study of anatomic changes resulting from sexual abuse, p. 829]
  • A transection of the posterior hymen between 4 and 8 o’clock in prepubertal girls suggests genital penetrating trauma; however, the presence of this finding is not confirmatory of sexual abuse. Posterior hymenal findings including transections between 4 and 8 o’clock, deep notches, and perforations were not seen in studies of prepubertal girls without a history of genital trauma from sexual abuse included in this systematic review. Therefore, one can conclude that the posterior hymenal findings of transections, deep notches, and perforations are extremely infrequent findings among children without a history of genital trauma from sexual abuse or other means. [...]
However, because the prevalence of posterior hymenal findings (between 4 and 8 o’clock) such as transections, deep notches, and perforations are near zero in nonabused prepubertal girls, the presence of these examination findings suggests genital trauma from sexual abuse. In the absence of known genital trauma from accidental means, the possibility for sexual abuse must be strongly considered. In a prepubertal girl with a posterior hymenal finding of a transection (between 4 and 8 o’clock), a deep notch (between 4 and 8 o’clock), or a perforation, a report to child protective services should be strongly considered. At a minimum, an examination by a child abuse specialist should occur to confirm these findings and to help provide a careful interpretation regarding the likelihood of sexual abuse.
[Molly Curtin Berkoff, MD, MPH; Adam J. Zolotor, MD, MPH; Kathi L. Makoroff, MD; et al. Has This Prepubertal Girl Been Sexually Abused?, p. 2790]
If any doctor or medical provider today observed a transection on the inferior half of the hymen of a prepubertal female patient, he/she would be required to make a report for suspected sexual abuse and an explanation would be required for how that healed injury got there. In forty years of research, this finding has not been seen in any other instance besides from penetrating trauma. In prepubertal girls, it is indicative of sexual abuse unless it can be shown otherwise.

What the evidence says

The evidence says JonBenet had been subjected to at least one penetration of the vagina through the hymenal membrane prior to her murder. The penetration caused a complete laceration of the inferior hymenal membrane. After the laceration healed, a transection and other structural changes of the hymen remained.
The age of the prior injury could not be determined, but based on his research on the healing of hymenal lacerations of prepubertal girls, it was McCann's opinion that it was more than ten days old. His research has shown that "most signs of an acute [hymenal laceration] injury were gone within 7 to 10 days." Some of the experts thought the prior injury could have been weeks or months old.
While the evidence could conclusively prove only one prior penetration, the experts believed there had been more than one instance of penetration/sexual contact and that JonBenet's genital findings indicated abuse that had been repeated or ongoing. They were unable to determine how many incidents over what period of time.
Four of the five experts (Sirotnak, Monteleone, Rao, McCann) were confident in their opinion that JonBenet's genital findings were diagnostic of sexual abuse. One (Krugman) could not disagree with that assessment, but lacking certain forensic evidence (i.e., the victim's testimony, the confirmed presence of sperm, or an STI), was unwilling to assume a sexual motive for the abuse. He felt there was evidence only of physical abuse of the genitals.

What else could explain the prior penetration/ hymenal trauma besides sexual abuse?

There are three known causes of transections in the inferior hymenal rim in prepubertal girls — penetrative sexual abuse, accidental penetrating trauma, and surgical intervention.
Most accidental genital injuries sustained by children are straddle-type injuries that involve a fall onto the horizontal bar of a bicycle, jungle gym, or picket fence. This type of accident involves compression of the soft tissues against the bony margins of the pelvic outlet. Trauma is usually limited to the external structures of the genital area (e.g., labia, clitoral hood, fourchette, perineum).
Accidental penetrating or impalement injuries that involve trauma to the hymen are relatively rare:
Of 161 accidental genital injuries reported in the literature, 3.7% involved the hymen.
[Child Abuse: Medical Diagnosis and Management, 4th ed. Antoinette Laskey and Andrew Sirotnak (eds.), p. 359]
However, they do occur and the resulting injuries can mimic those of sexual abuse. In such cases, it is important that the cause of the injury be confirmed.
Whether an acute or healed genital or anal injury is identified, it is incumbent on the medical professional to obtain a complete history of the nature of the injury. [...]
Key differences in the history of accidental trauma, such as a straddle injury, are that accidental injuries are more commonly observed by a third party, medical attention is sought immediately after the injury, a scene-of-injury visit confirms the plausibility of the injuries and the accompanying history, and the pattern of injury is consistent with the history.
[Child Abuse: Medical Diagnosis and Management, 4th ed. Antoinette Laskey and Andrew Sirotnak (eds.), p. 359]
If JonBenet's prior hymenal injury was the result of an accident or a past surgical procedure, it should be reflected in her medical records and easy to prove. An accidental penetrating injury that results in a complete laceration of the hymen is considered severe, one that would be painful and cause bleeding. It would be expected that most parents or caretakers would seek medical attention for their child's injury.
We know the Ramseys were not timid or frugal when it came to getting medical attention for JonBenet's injuries and ailments. We have records of her being seen by the doctor for various bumps, falls, and injuries, such as a bent fingernail from a fall, a bruised nose from faceplanting at a grocery store, a bump on the brow from a tripping fall, and a small cut to the cheek from a golf club swing. If JonBenet had sustained an accidental genital injury that resulted in a severe laceration, I find it very hard to believe she would not have been taken to the doctor for such an injury when she was taken for lesser injuries and ailments.
Clearly, there was nothing in her medical records that could account for such an injury or the Ramseys would have provided it to police.

2020.09.26 07:57 living--like--Larry Have y'all ever had great sex from the past that you still think about?

I haven't had sex in a while, but I can't stop thinking about this one girl that I hooked up with.
This happened over a year ago. We met on Bumble, and we talked about a lot of things. We were interested in the same books, ideas, and studied liberal arts. I'm good at establishing inside jokes with people I meet, so we already had an inside joke that made us laugh all night long.
We had a light meal after our coffee date, and we saw each other the next day.
The next day, we went for a walk around the park, and as it got dark, we decided to go to her place to watch a movie. I wasn't expecting sex; I just wanted to see something on Netflix because I didn't have a TV or a computer at my apartment. After an hour, though, we were making out and decided to go from her living room to her bedroom.
We went for HOURS. Round after round. We just couldn't stop. No crazy kinks. No crazy fantasies. No jumping from a ladder and elbowing her stomach like it's Wrestlemania. We were both vanilla, and it was honestly perfect.
I didn't even feel like I was moaning while we were having sex. It felt like I was bellowing, but it wasn't because I was in pain or anger. Each roar felt like cheers coming from my ancestors' from thousands of years ago as they yelled, "Yes! Pass thy genes and reproduce. Goeth forth and stroketh!" And indeed I did. I grabbed her beautiful brown hair as I did the act, and each spank sounded as loud as the dynamite used to blow holes in the majestic 19th century Western American mountains.
I felt some kind primal ecstacy from having sex with this girl. I didn't care about anything. I even scooped some of my semen from her chest and tasted it without hesitation--without flinching or giving it a second thought. Turns out I taste pretty good!
Anywho, does anyone else think about good sex from a while back?

2020.09.26 03:53 PopularTradition Another surfer hit me on their wave. Should I be angry or apologetic? - Surf Culture Question

Hi all,
TLDR - local Mexican guy hits me while surfing a wave on my 3rd day surfing ever in Sayulita, Nayarit. I did my best to leave his wave. In a Mexican tourist town. No blood drawn. Nothing fatal. But a personal boundary violation nonetheless. I shake it off. I was at 6 hours of surfing at this point. Exhausted. Sun burnt. I immediately said a lo siento (I am sorry) when we both resurfaced. He goes straight to English which tells me he knows that I speak English. (Days 1 and 2 shows me they thought I was Mexican going straight to Spanish on me. This adds to me thinking he could have been targeting me. I never spoke English within earshot of him. Or the masajera told him. Word travels quickly in the pueblo.). He said he could not get out of the way.
His smile and saying he could not get out of the way threw me off. Perhaps he was genuine. He tells me this next wave is good to take. I just hit it. Stopped. Leashes are tied. Missed it. I tell him this is my 3rd time surfing ever. I can see he is trying to direct me to an easier part of the beach. Then he gets a thought - I need lessons. He needs money. And the peso binds us all together once again. I ask from who. From him! Fist bump each other. Names swapped. Situation turned around - I have a lesson with him next Monday for 600 pesos ($27 USD).
Got out of the water after that.
My questions are- is this an accident or could he have gotten out of the way (given he works as an instructor at a surf school) and not hit me?
How should I act next time this happens with another surfer?
I remember the day 1 local Mexican guy did not hit me on his wave I was trying to escape (below). But yelled at me in Spanish instead when he resurfaced. (A little intimidating for a first time surfer jajaja).
Trying to figure out how to act in the water. Respectful is my default, but you also have to clap back when someone is over the line. That is global. I am reading localism is a problem world-wide. Maybe that is what I experienced. Let me know.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More background:
3rd time surfing every today. Learning in a small Mexican pueblo that gets a lot of tourists by myself. Half local Mexicans and half white American/English/French demographic. Probably only 6-7 sufers out at this part of the beach at a time. Small rollers. No tubes. Perfect place to learn.
Anyways, I stayed silent on days 1 and 2 on the water.
Bought a massage for an hour. Made friends with the lady there 7 days a week. Park in a sketch alley with what looks like homeless guys manning a bathroom that charges $20p. Always greet them with kindness. Vendors on the beach - buying when I can to show some love.
Establishing relationships. Spending money is the fastest way to do that in Mexico.
So far - no one has taken my little backpack and beach towel. I leave my wallet in the car.
Tried to learn on my own with my 8ft Costco Wave Storm Surfboard. Due to my ambiguous complexion (I am super tan and have a black beard/mustache) I could tell people were eyeing me up and down. The blonde white Americans thinking maybe I did not speak English, but looked more like them. The Mexicans had some trepidation, but were friendlier.
I know the Mexicans thought I was Spanish when I was trying to get out of a local Mexican guy's wave. Instead of hitting me he gave up on it. He started to speak Spanish angrily. Now I do speak Spanish decently, but to disarm him I decided to look at him like I did not understand. He was yelling. Get the hell out of the way, etc. No swear words though. Just an angry dude. It worked. But then he switched to English with a heavy accent. That switch took a lot of steam out of him. He realized I was probably a tourist. And Mexicans in tourist dependent towns know that their potentially bad actions can affect the very livelihoods of all that live in the pueblo. Negative PR hurts everyone.
This systematic understanding is evidenced in random Mexican surfers pushing you to go to X restaurant or spend money somewhere. I like how the whole town is working to market each other in that way.
Anyways, Day 3. I break the silence. I start light chats with surfers.
1st, a French guy. I just give a PSA letting him know it is my 3rd time ever. He starts helping me out. Real cool guy. He points out when a local Mexican dude cuts the line coming in. That is not cool. But says he has surfed everywhere around the world. That entitlement is a general local trend. I think I pushed the line with him by asking him to get lunch. Trying to make friends. Although he said both he and his girlfriend got food poisioning, he also said they just got there yesterday. Do not think he had a GF. But I was just being friendly. Before he left we exchanged names. It ended on a good note with me thanking him for his help.
2nd guy - guy from the UK who I found out lives here full time. Less intensive of a chat. Let him know it is my 3rd time ever. He is just giving me tips on respect and courtesy since I asked. I noticed him and the Frenchman were super courteous. Dropping out of waves. The local Mexicans seemed a bit more entitled. The UK guy insists everyone is cool here. I still notice the entitlement especially in the Mexican kids who do not take turns. It is what it is. He swims off.
3rd woman - two blond American girls are surfing. This time I am wearing a hat which I think they are ridiculing from afar by talking about a careless friend who they "cannot believe he wears hats while surfing". Figured a chin strap on these small waves is no problem. It worked out.
I talk to one just lamenting at how slow of a day it is. She agrees. Give my PSA that it is my 3rd time sufring ever, make a joke, she seems dismissive so I disengage. Perhaps they thought I was hitting on them like guy number 1 because the 4th guy below says to them in Spanish if I was bothering them. I paddle away after that. A little White Knighty.
I did not talk to anyone on Days 1 and 2 (even beautiful blond women paddling super close to my board) because I could not figure out who was dating who. Mexicans are great. But I know the Mexican machisimo well. And I do not understand surf customs of small chats yet either.
4th local Mexican man - just give a greeting in Spanish and a smile. I see he drops a wave early as he sees me trying to get a wave after that.
Not trying to be that chatty guy on the water. Not trying to be the silent surfer either.
Everyone seems to know everyone. Locals and foreigners alike. I need to figure out who is who. How things work while trying to learn. Politics, water, instablity and learning is difficult when you are alone in a foreign country with no allies. No out of reach. But other stressors you do not have to deal with when learning to play basketball for example.
Action in question:
So after all this another local Mexican guy in my TLDR above hits me while I am trying to get out of his wave.
Trying to figure out how I should act next time if I am making a best effort to get out of the way and the surfer hits me.
Can they really not control hitting me, do they not like me for some reason, or are they selfish and not want to give up the wave?
I am a trained fighter. Despite their numbers, I have no fear of the locals in this pueblo due to its tourist designation. However, I know how pueblos work. Violence should always be avoided. Sometimes it helps to let someone know you will go there. But I think the solution for me is to keep smiling at people, small talk in Spanish on the land, and spending money on anything in a radius around my part of the beach (walking vendors, beach restaurants, etc.).

2020.09.26 03:28 the_kls Big Submission: Big Yellow Taxi

Name: Big Yellow Taxi
Personality: Yellow Taxi is a dry, ambitious woman who dedicated her life to achieving her goals. As the other Bigs think the end justifies the means, we are lacking that major villain who enjoys making people suffer. Yellow does this by making their lives hell though legal means, though she is not above doing the dirty work if she has to. Yellow enjoys working hard but goes out of her way to keep her spare time simple and calm. When you look into her eyes, you get the feeling not that she thinks she is better than you, but she knows it, and you deserve what happened to you. While she is highly immoral, you will be hard pressed to find her in a situation in which she is in the wrong, as she knows how to always be technically correct. That being said, she makes for a nice lunch date.
Physical Appearance: Business casual, a short, smart cut for her graying hair, a no-nonsense look all around. You trust me with giving her a good design in the end, no?
Traits: Yellow Taxi is in her late 50s, presumably about the same age as Big Orca. She is American, but I'm open to suggestions on ethnicity. She is average in height and weight, but a bit more athletic that most women her age, as she practices martial arts in her spare time.
Backstory: Yellow Taxi graduated from law school at the top of her class not because she was the smartest, but because any serious competition mysteriously dropped out or wasn't able to complete the year. She got a job right away at a big company (not the BOVC), but was unhappy as she was stuck doing intern-work. The higher ups cut costs wherever they could, and never really gave Yellow any credit, even going so far as to steal her ideas. It was the late-80s, and the higher ups really just wanted a nice young college girl to bring them coffee and donuts. Rather that fight this losing battle, she took a risk. By using her insider knowledge of this company's shady dealings and legal troubles, Yellow quit and helped a former "enemy," someone this company was in the midst of a legal battle with. With her help, he won the case, and Big Orca has considered her one of his greatest assets and closest friends ever since.
Stand Name: Sensurround
Stand Ability: Ever wish you could do two things at once? Sensurround sends out a "ghost" of Yellow to complete a task that she knows how to complete. There is no limit to the amount of ghosts sent out, but each ghost of Sensurround extends the same amount of energy from Yellow as it would if she did it herself. Yellow often uses this to multitask around the office, reading multiple files at once, filling out paperwork, making phone calls, etc. In direct combat, Sensurround would use Yellow's martial arts knowledge to fight the enemies, though ghosts like these take up much more energy that simple office work. Yellow suspects that if she extends too much energy, her heart will stop, she she avoids combat for planning and traps.

2020.09.26 03:22 em2e 30 [M4F] NY (Hudson Valley) - I'll be your virtual cuddle buddy as the world falls apart [WARNING: long post]

TL;DR: I have anxiety issues. I'm really nervous about this virus (and the way the world seems to be going in general.) I'm looking for someone who lives near me, but would also be OK with having just an online-only relationship at first, and then a real-life relationship with in-person dating once things hopefully get safer again.
As a guy who deals with anxiety issues, this virus stuff has made me basically hunker down over the past six months and try to avoid people as much as possible (and I tended to be nervous around people even before this). I've worked from home even before Covid in part because of my social anxiety, and since the virus hit I've been more 'indoorsy' than ever. (I know what I'm describing isn't what most people are looking for, but this is Reddit and I know there are a lot of different types of people out there. I'm trying to be hopeful!)
The upcoming election has skyrocketed my stress levels even more. The more paranoid part of me feels like this country is headed towards a civil war. I'm just exhausted by the news these days.
I feel like I'm living in a slow-motion apocalypse.
So... anyone out there seeking some virtual cuddles? I know I am, lol
...maybe we can connect here online, and hopefully whenever this thing fully and truly ends, we could consider moving to something in real life?
(Maybe between now and the time when the virus ends we could try a masks-on, 6-feet-apart in-person date just to actually meet for real, haha! I know, so romantic, right? lol)
I realize all of this might sound a bit crazy. But, as someone with anxiety issues... it feels like the best way to 'put myself out there' in the dating world, while still feeling safe from Covid. Hoping that someone out there is understanding, or maybe even feels the same way.
Please keep reading if you're interested 🙂
I'm looking for...
  • someone who lives nearby (Hudson Valley of New York), or ideally not too far away... so we could eventually have regular in-person dating
  • someone who'd be ok with a guy who's a bit of a mess 🙃 (but is working on getting better!)
  • someone caring and patient
  • goofy sense of humor is a big plus
  • an age range of 24 to 36, I guess?
  • someone who is a non-smoker and drug-free (and ideally alcohol-free also)
  • a connection based on personality and shared interests
  • someone who finds emotional meaning in physical affection (cuddles, hugs, etc. ... Little things like that are important to me, and hopefully to you too. Even if they're only 'cyber-cuddles' at first, lol 🤗)
  • a relationship that could maybe(?) eventually become something long-term? Let's try and see what happens.
  • ...as you may have noticed, I tend to write a lot, haha! ...and actually, I often like reading other people's walls-of-text too, lol! So, if you are the 'writerly' type, I think thats a plus!
Looks
  • Me -- I am 5'8"; white; blue eyes; dark blonde hair; skinny but not athletic. Kinda boyish, I guess. Occasionally I grow out a bit of a beard. A girl in high school once said I looked a bit like Chris Martin from Coldplay. (...imagine a much dorkier version of that, though! haha. much dorkier...)
  • You -- we can trade pics; do face-to-face video chats; see if we find each other attractive... but anyway, personality usually means more than looks to me.
Positives of Dating Me
  • Kindness. I'm someone who knows what being nervous/overwhelmed/anxious/insecure can feel like sometimes. I will try my best to be there for you.
  • Companionship. I enjoy being a conversation partner! Let's have text chats, either here on Reddit, or on Discord or some other IMing-type service. Once we get to know each other, we can set up some video chat 'dates'... we can watch movies online together, or just hang out!
  • Once things fully reopen and start to feel safe again... The Hudson Valley has lots of art galleries, free classical concerts, and lovely parks! Wanna be my date?
  • Pre-Covid, I'd say that I was adventurous in my own nerdy way 🤓 ...I was not the kind of person who'd go skydiving, lol.... but I would go see a weird modern art gallery exhibit or a cheesy 1980s horror movie! Hopefully you could join me when the world re-opens.
  • (Virtual) cuddles available on demand! lol 💕
I just want to add... I can't be the only one here who struggles with their self-esteem. So I really hope you'll understand...
...for years I felt like I had nothing to offer a potential romantic partner. I was really down on myself. But, I think I can feel confident in what I listed above. I'd love to be able to share it with someone special 🙂
Negatives of Dating Me
  • It would be online-only for a while
  • I still live with my parents... and I'm super self-conscious and awkward about it. They also tend to be nosy, which has made dating for me....not fun. 😑 I'm working and hoping to save up enough $ to get out on my own, but I'm not there yet... and with the virus, they're now home almost 24/7. So, between work and them, sometimes my free time is limited.
  • Pets are tough for me (combo of anxiety and allergies 🙁)
  • Don't have a lot of $
  • I'm pretty sure I don't want kids
  • and... just my issues with anxiety in general 😬
Anyone still reading at this point? lol 😅
My Interests/Hobbies
  • retro/pop culture history (the 1920s thru the 1980s)
  • reading (non-fiction)
  • listening to music (jazz, classical, instrumentals)
  • movies (retro, sci-fi, monsters, horror)
  • tv (Bob's Burgers, American Dad, Adult Swim)
I guess it is a crazy long-shot that someone's out there nearby, but I'm not ready to quit hoping yet 🙂 Thanks for reading!
As you can tell, I'm not good at keeping these posts short, lol ...If you wanna read even more about me, you can check out a huge rambling post I wrote a while ago, where I tell you everything, and in even more detail. It's a like a longer version of this. It is insanely long, lol 📚 It's also pre-Covid, so some of the stuff doesn't apply at the moment. I'd link it here, but I don't think /r4r allows direct links. You can find it in my post history if you're interested, though.
P.S. If you can, please message me on the old Reddit 'PM' system and not the Reddit chat thing; I never seem to get notifications from the Reddit chat thing. 🤷‍ I think you have to dig a bit in the menus to get to the option, but it says "send a private message", and just leave a note there with something like "From r4r" in the subject line. Thanks!

If you can, please message me on the old Reddit 'PM' system and not the Reddit chat thing; I never seem to get notifications from the Reddit chat thing. 🤷‍ I think you have to dig a bit in the menus to get to the option, but it says "send a private message", and just leave a note there with something like "From ForeverAloneDating" in the subject line. Thanks!

2020.09.26 01:58 19_throw_away_95 I think my relationship has caused me to lose myself.

Hello fellow redditors, I am here to tell you about my relationship and hoping to get some advice even though I'm pretty sure I know what advice I'm going to be getting. So I suppose this all kind of starts in February of 2019 where I added this woman along with many other woman on snapchat. I wasn't looking to hook up with anyone I just was looking for a serious relationship. maybe it sounds stupid but I was never the type to just hook up with someone. I would always tell myself that my wife is out there somewhere and I'm sure she would appreciate if I wasn't sleeping around. That being said I never expected my wife to perfect and pure. I'm sure she isn't a virgin but ideally I would hope she would keep the sleeping around to a minimum. but if I someday found someone that had slept around a lot it wouldn't be the end of the world as long as this person was committed to me. Anyways I have this girl on snapchat since February and it was never anything serious it was always just small talk. Until the end of November when I actively was asking her to go on a date with me and she would say maybe then about a week later she says yes. We went to chick fil a, I picked her up we had food and kissed quite a bit. Took her home no big deal I liked her and she seemed to like me.
About a week later we go Christmas shopping together and end the night having in n out, again lots of kissing and this time some touching and rubbing. I take her home again and everything seems fine. Later on I ask her when we would be hanging out again and she says doesn't really want to anymore and that we should just be friends. I went to Mexico for vacation for about two weeks in December and the entire time I'm there we were talking every day. I would ask her if we were going to hang out again and she said maybe. So in my head she's interested again. I get back from Mexico on I believe the 29th and on New Years eve I asked her to hang and get food and she agrees. we get food then we go sight seeing and there's lots of kissing again and everything seems be going good.
Now we're in January and honestly I don't remember when the next time we hung out was but it wasn't very long because I remember she had invited me over to her place because she was sick and needed meds. So I went took her what she needed and hung out with her for the day. I went over a few more times in the first couple weeks of January and on one of those times we started having sex. Which for me was kind of out character because I've only had sex with people I was in a relationship with but I was able to justify it because I really like this girl and I could see a future with her. So we go through January and near the end I started talking to her about being in a relationship with me to which she would say she wasn't ready for that but she could see that happening with me. Her reasoning was legitimate to me she had a car payment to a car she couldn't drive because the transmission went out, rent, phone bill, braces payment, work, debt in collections, and she was going back to school. She doesn't make a lot of money. While you may be thinking that was the red flag right there, well we had had talks about this stuff and she had a plan and wasn't being foolish with her financials anymore.
Now were in February and we were still hanging out frequently and sometime early in February I still feeling like I love her, I wasn't completely in love with her but she made me very happy, she treated me great she would cook for me, kiss me every time we met up and every time I was leaving, she called me babe/baby and it honestly felt like we were in a relationship I was feeling great until valentines day. she had told me before hand that she didn't like valentines day and I didn't get that. the day before valentines day came around and I had bought her these huge flowers of mostly yellow flowers which is her favorite color and had them delivered to her work and she loved them. So after I had got out of class I went to her house at around 7ish maybe a little bit later and she was very upset about me being there because she said she was planning to go to the gym and what not so I left after 5 minutes and she laid in bed and didn't even kiss me bye that time. Which I suppose was my fault but I just wanted to surprise her and take her out to eat tacos to this place near her house that we both love. Anyways we didn't hang out or talk much over the next couple of days and she had gone with one of her friends to spend the weekend with her. whatever I would say the first really hiccup. Monday comes around and she had got her tax return and she needed a laptop for school so I went with her to Best Buy and helped her pick one out. she had about a $400 budget so I helped her find one we ended up getting one on amazon for like 150 so she had 250 left over. she had mentioned that she wanted a tv before so I said lets check them out and we ended up getting her an open box tv and were still under the budget. We go to her house and I help her mount the tv. Everything is still good at his point except I started to notice some patterns that were a little bit concerning. She would text a lot of guys which she claimed were her friends and to me that was fine I don't see a problem with her having friends of the opposite sex. What was concerning was that she would text certain guys pretty openly right in front of me and not try to hide her screen and other guys she would really make an effort to hide it. I should mentioned that I was never really trying to read any of these messages until I noticed that she was trying to hide something.
I remember asking her if she was "talking" to someone else and she had said no. which I had reason to believe her because she really would spend most of her time with me so really there was little to no time for her to be talking to other guys. Then one day it hit me, Those guys that she was hiding texts from were guys that are in the military. So then I started noticing she was sending snaps to other guys a lot. for those that don't use snapchat you get an a heart emoji for the person you send snaps to the most. That heart emoji turns red after snapping someone more than anyone else after two months. I was red and suddenly one day I wasn't anymore she had a heart with some other guy. So at this point I'm convinced there was something going on but I had zero evidence of anything. All I had was her word.
So we go into march everything is good on the surface but I have my suspicions. One week she tells me that the following Sunday she was going to be hanging out with one of her guy friends who is in the military and that's kinda when my heart first sank she had him in her contacts as sgt blank (I'm gonna avoid using real names.) she didn't text me the entire day until the night when he left. she swore he was just a friend. So fast forward to the next Friday and that is when covid brought us our initial shut down. So I will admit that I was terrified of it at first and I live at home with my parents and they are older and into that high risk category so I really begged her to allow me stay with her for the time being and she really didn't like it but she allowed it and for the most part would stay with her most nights and really only going to my house when I needed cloths. So now I'm spending so much time with her and one day I don't remember the reason I had her phone but I had it for a good while and she gets a text from a guy named e j and it says "I wanna see boobies" she sitting right next to me and takes the phone and I ask her what that's about and ask her if she's playing me and she just says no and we basically don't talk much after that for the day. a couple days later I started paying attention to the code for her phone and when she went to the shower I went through her phone (this is probably a huge mistake on my part but I don't regret it) what I found was devastating to me. all it was was a bunch of nudes she would send him and talk about fucking when he got back from where ever he was stationed. there was some talk about him asking her to be her valentine and that was very hurtful as well. I was scared to confront her partly because I didn't know how to bring it up and partly because I didn't wanna go home and potentially put my parents in harms way.
It wasn't until a few nights later that I was drinking and doing hw and she had fell asleep so I went through again and found that sgt blank was for the most part really just a friend there might have been some intention to start a relationship at some point but it didn't seem to amount to anything. however ej was still in the mix there were more nudes being sent and talk about sex. I was a bit drunk so I didn't really think it through but I started packing my shit to get out and leave without saying a word. she ended up waking up near the time that I was done and she asked what I was doing and I just said I was leaving and that she could suck and fuck ej. I was crying at this point because I was in love with this woman and she lying to me. She started laughing and all I said was I was glad she found humor in that. I walked out with all my shit and went to my car and realized I couldn't drive in my condition so I was just gonna sit in there until morning or when I knew I was sober. she was aware that I had been drinking as well and started texting me to go back because I had been drinking and like a fool I went inside and slept by her side. the next morning I was sober and I didn't leave, I don't know why I didn't leave but I didn't. I don't know what happened exactly but we started talking about she told me that wasn't going to do that anymore and I like a fool believed her.
We go into April and I still had my suspicions but part of me was just convinced that she had changed. I wanted to believe it so bad. At this point she had also started telling me that she loved me and so that probably played a huge role in me believing her. anyways were in April and I go through her phone again and its the same shit. I confront her about it and she just shuts down this happens a few times in April and there's multiple arguments about it but nothing changes. I believe also at the end of this month she was introduced to my dad nothing big just an introduction and a goodbye.
we go into May and its the same deal still and at this point I was getting ready to call it quits. I felt like she wasn't going to be changing. We had also had conversations and she would tell me that she was fucked up and she needed to love herself before she could really love me. I love her so much at this point and I just wanted to be there for her and help her in anyway that I could. Then at the end of the month her dog ran away and it kind of tore her apart it seemed. So I really didn't wanna leave her at this point because I kind of felt at fault for her dog running away. Also she had just met my mom at this point.
June starts and we went posting flyers up for her dog all over the place and posting on social media. honestly at this point everything with us was going good I had a feeling she was still doing the same thing as before but I had no evidence because at this point she had changed her password and I couldn't guess it and honestly have given up since June on trying to guess what it is. nearing the end of June we noticed she had missed her period and we had been joking that she would get pregnant and well she took a pregnancy test and she was indeed pregnant. so now we had another dilemma and her initial thought was she didn't know what to do. she had always been pro-life but she wasn't ready for motherhood. my initial reaction was telling her that I only wanted this baby is she going to be faithful to me. That exactly what I told her for the first couple of days. After that I told her that I wanted this baby whether she wanted to be with me or not. So not too long after that she told she didn't want the baby and that she was going to get an abortion. So I understand the whole her body her choice thing and I would tell her that. However I was always clear and honest with her. I don't want her to get the abortion because that's a life to me. growing up one of the things I always looked forward to was becoming a father since I was very young. I was still supportive of whatever she decided to do so I would take her get ultrasounds at first and then when it came to it I took her to planned parenthood. We went and she went in and came out and we didn't say a word I didn't say anything because I was afraid of bursting into tears and I wanted to be strong for her. It wasn't until we were at her house laying in bed and she had seen that I was crying that she told me that she didn't get the abortion. she then pulled out the ultrasound and showed it to me and we were both really happy just looking at it. I know it may sound like I haven't many happy days but when she showed me the ultrasound it probably was one of the happiest moments in my life. she told me that when they handed her the abortion pills that she just couldn't do it. Then she goes on to tell me that she had made another appointment and that she still didn't want to have the baby. At this point im very mixed with emotions because I still have hope for a baby but it seems to be fading away from me.
we go into July and this happens a couple more times where we go to planned parenthood and she doesn't get the abortion for one reason or another. Near the end of this month she's also managed to save up a little bit of money and was able to finish paying off her car. She still had some money left over but it wasn't quite enough to pay for the transmission repair plus her job was beginning to cut hours so she didn't want to blow her savings in case she lost her job and still needed to pay rent. so I had offered in the past to help her pay the transmission repair but she always said no until I told her about my American Express card had a payment plan option and then she more entertained by it. This was probably a mistake on my end but at the time I was thinking I'm gonna have a child with this woman, I love her, and she's been financially responsible, so I added her as an authorized user on my account and we got her transmission repaired. Unfortunately when the mechanic got the car they noticed the catalytic converter was stolen and that was going to need fixing as well because we thought she needed a smog to get her new tags (car had been on non op for over a year.) so we I started yelping on her phone and noticed how she was really really paying attention to what I was looking at on her phone, it felt like she was hiding something. so I said I need to use the bathroom and went and sure enough I look at her texts and she's been talking to ej. he's back from wherever he was with the military. she's sending him nudes while pregnant with my baby. so I confronted her about it and it was basically the same shit as it had been in the past. I felt trapped this time. If there wasn't a baby in the equation I would have canceled my card and left. we hadn't got her car back from the transmission repair and I could really screw her. I was going to but I thought this could be my baby momma whether im with her or not she is gonna be the mother to my child so I shouldn't screw her so I didn't. things weren't going well for us. but she got her car fixed (just the transmission) on my card and she blocked ej and deleted his contact info.
we go into august and I'm honestly pretty happy with how things are going we might have a baby. she is now 12 weeks we both would talk to the baby and everything is going great honestly. we went to Palm Springs for a weekend as getaway but not before another failed abortion attempt. So that was still lingering on my mind. I was convinced she wouldn't ever do it. It had just been too many times and she couldn't do it. then on 8/15 we went again and she really did it. This time she was texting me while in there and she told me when she had the abortion I was crying in my car waiting for her (they didn't allow anyone to go in with her due to covid) then she text me to go to the front and I tried to stop crying and I did until she got in the car and I couldn't hold anything back. I don't think I've ever cried harder than that. we got back to her house and I continued to cry a ton. she was crying a little bit but it was clear that this was much more hurtful for me than it was for her. To this day I still cry thinking about "little baby" that what we would call her (she didn't ever find out the gender but she was convinced that it was a girl so it just refer to it as her.) anyways I'm crying and sad as fuck and we went to her aunts house for a birthday party and I met most of her family looking like a sad ass little kid. it was a bad idea to go but it happened. I wasn't myself for a couple of weeks. the Wednesday following her birthday we had a birthday dinner with her close friends and some cousins and people noticed that I wasn't myself and brought it up. I don't think any of those people know I was so hurt by it.
I forgot to mention that at this point there's another dude called f that is her friend and they had sexual relations and they at one point were trying to form a relationship. This guy was still trying to get with her it was very clear from his texts. I asked her to stop talking to him because I felt disrespected because this guy would frequently talk about getting together and about her body and she just allowed it. she refused to do that for me so I felt like I was played once again.
anyways fast forward to the end of the month to where her coworker was having a little get together for her for her birthday and she had invited her cousin and they were going to be spending the night. Well things started to fall apart with that story. the day they were going to the coworkers house I noticed her cousin said that she would be driving (my gf had said that her cousins wasn't going to drive) so I was confused and asked if they were going to be spending the night at the coworkers house and her cousin kind of just shrugged. something was off and I could sense it. so that's Saturday and on Monday I decided to check her location history in the maps application and surprise surprise she left her coworkers house at 11 pm and went to a military base. so let me rewind Sunday morning she got to my house at around 9 am and we had sex for the first time since the abortion because they told her she was very fertile and should wait. so we did. however when we had sex her vagina didn't feel as tight as it normally does. Then she knocked out for several hours like if she hadn't slept. she wakes up we have sex and her vagina feels a little tighter honestly. let me rewind again the last two weeks we had been talking about how we were going to have a ton of sex when we could start again. she didn't seem too interested after two go's. so back to Monday I confront her about her location her history and she Denys it she said she had thought about it but didn't go. I showed her the history and then she just starts saying we're done and starts kicking me out. I also had noticed that on the first of August she had gone half way to the military base and spend the night at a hotel when she supposedly was with a friends pool. At this point I felt broken and I genuinely didn't want to live anymore. I told her to please just listen to me and she just kept telling me to leave. I finally just started telling her not to let me leave because I genuinely wanted to go and kill myself. It was a real feeling that I never thought that would ever hit me. I was scared. She didn't seem to care so I just wanted to leave, I was going to do kill myself I really was. I started driving towards the desert. Then she contacted my sister and she was worried. I don't know what it was about that but it just felt somebody cared about me. I don't know what else to say about that. I felt like there was nothing for me in this world.. I had lost my baby and my gf clearly cheated on me. so I pulled over and was sitting at a gas station and was texting my gf and asked her if I could go back and she said yes so I went and it was just like before not much talking.
now at this point I had bought her a MacBook Air because the initial laptop she had bought was trash. so all her texts were synced with her phone. I took it with me and went through everything and she had deleted everything from ej and blocked him again. but there was still f. she was texting him that she loved him and missed him and how she thinks about how things would have been if they had got together. It broke me down further.
Now my gf and I are still together. I don't know what's happening with us. I honestly don't have any hope of it turning into anything anymore. frankly I don't really have hope of anything. most days I don't feel anything I just feel numb and when I do feel its just heartbreak and a lot of sadness. I still miss my little baby and cry all the time. My gf asks me what's wrong but I don't even want to bring anything up because I just feel like its a lost cause. its just going to be like every other time where we don't talk and I just feel hurt. I feel trapped. I often feel like I have no purpose and im just going because suicide really isn't an option. I know that its a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I just don't see the end to this problem. I don't feel like I have the energy to do anything. Ive gained about 40lbs since getting with her. I used to be so happy all the time. now I don't want to feel anything because it always seems to just be pain and suffering. at night I have a hard time falling asleep and im always waking very early. I just feel like I have nothing. I wish I didn't exist.

I'm wrote this while she was asleep next to me and she seems to be waking up so I won't be doing any proof reading. but if somebody has some questions about anything please ask. if you want to give advice feel free. I know its probably going to be telling me to leave this relationship and to seek therapy and its ok if you just say that.
I just want someone to respond to me I don't feel like I can talk to anyone about any of this so this seemed like the right place. I just want to feel like someone is listening.
thank you for taking the time.

Gorilla: Did you hear about the gorilla that escaped from the zoo?
Zookeeper: No I did not
Gorilla: That’s because I am a very quiet gorilla
[sounds of muffled gorilla violence]
Hi there! I've posted a couple of times here with varying success and figured I would try again and see where that leads me. This time around I'll be pretty upfront with what I want. I'm looking for someone I can converse with, talk about art, movies, etc. and see if that leads to anything romantic in nature. You see, I'm not too big on the whole immediate attraction thing, even if you are super pretty. I'm more of a, being attracted to a person that makes me laugh kind of guy. I’ve also decided to narrow things down to people in Texas, preferably in the San Antonio/Austin area.
Now this next part is going to be pretty long, but I promise if you stick with it and you like what you see we'll get along real well and have a ton of fun.
I love talking about movies, art, books, and a big part of that is because I want to be a writer. While I currently have a job as a financial advisor, I hate ever simpering second of this soul sucking shitshow and would prefer to do what I enjoy even if that means I'll probably be poor. I always gravitate towards the arts in general because it makes me happy and ideally it would make you happy too. One of my favorite memories was when me and a friend of mine went to NYC together and went to the Museum of Modern Art and we did one go around seriously, admiring the art and pointing out pieces we liked and discussing the merits of the different sculptures and paintings. Then we went and did a second round but this time we spent the whole time cracking jokes, making up stories, and in general just to goofing on the pieces we saw. It's also something I've done on first dates with local art museums and it is a really good indicator on if you click with someone or not.
So here's my general expertise when it comes to writing/film: I'm a big horror buff. I love horror movies and the watching thereof. I even love the worst B horror movies and will absolutely talk you to death about the intricacies of Slumber Party Massacre 2 and all of its thematic subtext. You see, one of my dreams is to write a book detailing from the 1950's until now the different eras of horror film, noteworthy films, and the societal and political landscape that birthed those particular movies. Often film critics are pretty rough on horror movies, but quite frankly I feel that they are the perfect window to the lesser discussed aspects of societal mentality. In particular, Night of the Living Dead is less about the zombies coming to get you and more about the societal fears of the civil rights movement and how the protagonist, an African American man, is wrongly attacked despite being the only voice of reason and the main person trying to help people throughout the film. If ever there was an old film relevant today.
Much of the writing I do horror wise also draws heavily on those B movies, but my goal would be to try to elevate those things. I don't necessarily think I'm a great writer, I'm certainly trying, but to get an idea as to my personal sensibilities, the last piece I worked on for a college class is about a young woman who gets sacrificed by her neighbor and two other guys to attain wealth and power. However, she gets returned to the living as an undead monster lady, but finds that her humanity is intact and that despite hating the men who killed her she didn't have it in her to murder people and instead resolves to living out what life she has in a way that she wants to. I was told by one of my peers that reading it was like making out with a girl only for her to get up and leave and then get hit by a car. I want to say that's high praise.
I feel like this is a lot, but I've got one more bit of information about me that will hopefully seal whatever deal or scare you away entirely. I love photography and is one of my favorite hobbies. It basically gets me out of the apartment and has me running around trying to find things. You tell me "Hey, let's go hiking" and I'll say, "Yeah, yeah, no", but if you go "Hey, let's go walking through the woods and see what pictures we can take" I'll be out there with you for hours dying in the heat looking for something cool to photograph. I do all kinds of things, portraits, street photography, etc and will do analog and digital. If you ever wanted to learn or you want to have your own personal photography I will certainly be of help. However, know that the blood sacrifice demands that for every beautiful portrait I take of you a second, malformed photograph will emerge.
Here’s an example of recent photoshoots I’ve done:
https://imgur.com/a/wrPHdzd
https://imgur.com/a/6QOk9pE
https://imgur.com/a/wq5hyhR
https://imgur.com/a/uJCA9mq
Of course the irony there is that I'm super uncomfortable in front of the camera. I mean super uncomfortable. Every single picture of me looks like an awkward dad at a Kpop concert trying to figure out which member of BTS my daughter likes the most and wondering why they won't let me have a beer. I couldn't say why, but I think a big part of it was the whole growing up where my look wasn't considered conventionally attractive; I'm Jewish and Puerto Rican and grew up in white suburbs all across the States and Europe and it got to the point that my nickname was "Spaniard" despite not being involved with Spain whatsoever. Admittedly we can get to the trauma bonding at some point, but my insecure Jewish heritage often manifests itself in comedy like everyone else so at least when I make a cry for help it'll be absolutely hilarious.
Now what am I looking for? Ideally a woman within my age range, youngest being 21. Someone who can talk about all kinds of things so we can try to get to know one another and eventually move beyond friendship .
That was a lot, but hey if you're interested send me a message with some stuff about yourself and a picture. For reciprocation, here are some pics of me:

Here’s an example of recent photoshoots I’ve done:

This is Book 4: Boarding School Break: Happy Thanksgiving
[Book 2: Boarding School Beginnings] [Book 3: Boarding School Boyfriends]

Big. Enormous. Large.
My friend lives in a mansion.
Huge. Colossal. Vast.
Pat took Melinda to the top of the right staircase and a couple of steps down a corridor before he stopped and faced her. He ran his finger through her hair, saying “I missed you, Daphne.”
He left his hand behind her head as he pulled her towards him for a kiss. Melinda placed her hands on her chest and gently pushed him away.
His face was full of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Melinda closed her eyes, fighting back tears. “So many things.”
Pat looked around, then took Melinda’s hand and led her to the opposite end of the house to the second door on the right. The door was closed, but Pat entered without knocking.
“I’m cleaning,” Walter said, jumping off a chair. “Oh, it’s you.” He sat back down, but did not pick up the remote control he had obviously just dropped.
“We’re not here.” Pat glared at his brother as he led Melinda to some bean bag chairs in the corner of the room. Melinda looked around, noticing a large television on one wall with more bean bag chairs scattered around the room. There were remote controls and games all over the floor, and some plates and cups stacked on a table.
Walter pouted, turning to Melinda. “What’re you doing here?”
“Your mom thought maybe you’d clean your room if you knew I was here.”
“She must not know me. But, why are you here? Like, at our house?”
Melinda looked cautiously at Pat. “Well…”
“Oh, man! You came to see him?” Walter did not hide his whine.
“No. Your mom called mine last night to invite me over. To have a playdate with you.”
Walter raised his eyebrows. “She didn’t.”
“Well, my mom didn’t call it a playdate, but yeah. She pretty much did.”
“So, why did she send me up here and make Pat stay?”
“Because I had already told my mother about me and Pat and she was uncomfortable. So, we just had to have a really awkward conversation with our moms.”
“Okay. Never inviting a girlfriend over. That’s good to know. Who’s up for WTTE?”
“Not now, doofus. Go back to your game.” Pat glared at his brother before turning to Melinda. He took her hand and gently pulled her into one of the chairs as he sat in another. “What’s wrong, Daphne?”
She kept her voice low. “Did you get my text?”
Pat shook his head. “When?”
“Last night.”
Pat checked his phone, again shaking his head. “Nothing. I saw you had tried to chat, but when I called back, there was no answer.”
“My phone died. What’s going on with you and Poppy Sommers?” She could feel the tears stinging her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
“Poppy? Nothing. Why?”
Melinda saw something in Pat’s expression that she had never seen before and it hurt her. She responded very quietly. “My mom’s right. You are a good actor. There’s something you’re not telling me.”
“Daphne, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can you please start at the beginning?”
Melinda pulled out her phone and showed him the image Joey had shown her the night before. Pat gave it a cursory glance before returning it with a shrug.
“Poppy and I were together last summer. You knew that.”
“No, I didn’t. But, this isn’t from this summer. This is from the other day.”
Pat looked at the article more carefully, scrolling slowly enough that Melinda realized he must be reading it. Meanwhile, Walter must have been listening to the conversation, because he suddenly reappeared reading over Pat’s shoulder.
Pat muttered a curse under his breath. “I’m gonna kill Cynthia,” he grumbled as he stormed out of the room.
Melinda tried to remain nonchalant as Walter took his brother’s seat. “Who’s Cynthia?”
“Our agent. You okay?”
When Melinda shook her head, afraid her voice would betray her, Walter leaned over to give her a comforting hug. “He’s crazy about you. He would never cheat on you.”
“What’s going on?” asked a voice standing above them. “I just ran into Pat and he looked ready to kill someone.”
Melinda watched Meghan, an eighteen-year-old version of her mother, gracefully fold herself into another chair.
Walter handed Melinda’s phone to his sister, who read the article carefully.
“That twit. I warned Pat she was bad news, but did he listen? Nooo.”
“It says they’re….” Melinda could not bring herself to quote the article.
Meghan glanced at the phone. “They’ve rekindled their romance after a five-month hiatus.”
Melinda nodded. “What’s high-ate-us mean?”
Walter smiled, used to translating vocabulary words for his friend. “It basically means a break in a routine. It’s a common term in Hollywood and appropriate for this article. Except for the fact that it’s a lie.”
Meghan smiled kindly at Melinda. “Lemme guess. You saw this and thought Pat was back together with Crazy Poppy?”
When Melinda nodded, Meghan turned to her brother. “Go. It’s girl time. I suggest you go find Pat. He looked a little unhinged when I passed him in the hall.”
Walter squeezed Melinda’s shoulder before following his sister’s instructions. Meghan took her brother’s seat.
“I’m not about to gossip about my brother’s previous girlfriends. But, I’m pretty sure he’s confided in me about all the girls he’s liked, both crushes and actual girlfriends. He and Poppy were spending a lot of time together when they filmed Romeo and Juliet.”
“I thought they were dating. Romeo and Juliet,” Melinda interrupted.
“Jarrod and Poppy?” Meghan shook her head. “The producers thought it would make good publicity to have a real life romance between them, and they got along okay enough. But, Poppy had her eyes on Pat. And, I think he liked that she was going out of her way to spend time with him. I warned him she’s crazy. Literally crazy. But, he didn’t listen to me. After the movie wrapped, they kept spending time together.”
“How long were they together?” Melinda tried to keep her voice light, even though she was finding it difficult to digest.
Meghan shrugged. “You have to understand. Poppy’s not completely right in the head. She gets these strange ideas and believes they’re true and tries to convince everyone else they are, too. Her mom is her agent and tries to keep a lid on things, but every so often, Poppy’s crazy side comes out.”
Melinda sniffled but held back the tears as Meghan continued. “Pat always insisted he and Poppy weren’t serious. But, they hung out a lot for a few weeks. Despite whatever he told me, I was never convinced Pat liked Poppy, just the attention she gave him. He tried to break it off not long before he left for Hawaii.”
“Tried to?”
“I’m not sure of the details. We were at this party. They had disappeared for a while. When they came back, he told me he had broken up with her. A few minutes later, she walks right up to him, wraps herself around his arm, and starts talking to someone as if she had been part of the conversation all along. It was as if they hadn’t broken up.”
“So they got back together?” Melinda feared the answer.
Meghan giggled. “No! Pat wanted nothing to do with Poppy. But, I’m not sure Poppy figured that out. My best guess? Poppy needs attention so she leaked this story to the media. She probably believes it, too.”
“Does he still care about her?” Melinda asked the question without meaning to.
Meghan smiled. “If he even thinks about her any more, my guess is that he pities her. He has never cared for a girl as deeply as he cares for you. He’s crazy about you.”
“That’s what Walter said.”
Meghan frowned. “Sadly, I think Pat’s starting to confide more in Walter than me. Probably because they’re at school together and I’m not. But, when Walter was still ignoring Pat, he called me. Invited me to come to campus for the day to see a ballet.”
Melinda smiled, knowing she was referring to her performance in the Nutcracker earlier that month, as Meghan continued.
“Pat and I had a long talk the next day. I could tell how much he cared about you. I’ve never seen him this happy with anyone before.”
Walter returned with a still-fuming Pat behind him, each of them flopping into the bean bag chairs.
“I tried to contact Cynthia. She’s probably still sleeping. Stupid time difference.”
Meghan rolled her eyes. “We’ll call her later I need to have a few words with her myself.”
“About this Poppy thing?” asked Walter.
“No. Nightshade.” Meghan spit the word out like she had eaten something disgusting.
Walter tried to change the subject. “Well, since we’re waiting for LA to wake up, who’s up for a game of WTTE?”
“What’s WTTE?” Melinda turned to Pat.
He shook his head. “It’s easier to show you.”
Melinda followed her friends to a room next door, with a pool table, a bookshelf full of board games, and a large octagonal table with a green-felt top. Pat led Melinda to the octagonal table, where he and his brother wordlessly picked up the table top and flipped it over to reveal a wooden surface. Pat walked to the bookshelf and returned with some pencils, lined paper, and graph paper, while everyone else chose seats at the table.
“What’re we playing now?” Melinda asked.
“Weddas, the Travel Edition,” Walter sounded proud.
“Someone,” Pat said emphatically, glaring at Walter, “forgot to bring home Weddas. So, we created a travel version.”
Melinda raised her eyebrows. At the beginning of the school year, Melinda had explained to Walter how she kept a vocabulary journal to learn new words, and that it had become especially useful at her new school when she was overwhelmed by her peers’ superior vocabularies. After his first visit home, Walter introduced her to Weddas, a game his family had invented. It involved using letter tiles to create a crossword puzzle of words.
After returning to school, Pat had often joined their game and Melinda quickly learned the boys loved to play the game daily, sometimes multiple times a day, if they had the time.
“You couldn’t play a regular board game like normal families?” she suggested.
Meghan laughed. “That was my suggestion. My brothers are obsessed with this game.”
“So, how do you play the travel edition?”
Pat held up the graph paper. “Well, when its your turn, you write a word on the page. You can only write seven letters, as if you had tiles, but you can write any seven letters you want. Each letter gets its own square. On this page,” he held up a sheet of lined paper, “we write everyone’s words and keep track of which letters are used. You can only use a letter six times.”
“Wow. That is…”
“Inventive?” suggested Pat.
“Ingenious?” suggested Walter.
“Pathetic,” finished Melinda with a smile as Meghan burst into laughter.

It took a few turns for Melinda to settle into the game, but Melinda was finding this new version a little easier, since she could just think of any word she wanted, instead of trying to make words using the letters in front of her. For once, she found it easy to hold a conversation while playing the game.
Melinda turned to Meghan as she waited for her turn. “So, when are you going back to New York?”
“My roommate went home for Thanksgiving and I didn’t want to stay in the apartment alone all week. I have to go back for a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and I just plan on staying in the city.”
Pat turned to Melinda. “So, did your mom say how long you’re visiting?”
Melinda shook her head.
“She left,” Walter said. “When I left to find you, I ran into Mom. You can spend the day and we’ll take you home after dinner.”
“Sick,” Pat smiled. He turned to his sister. “Did you say you needed to talk to Cynthia, too?”
Meghan rolled her eyes. “Nightshade.”
Pat and Walter both shuddered. When they said nothing, Melinda asked, “What’s Nightshade?”
“My agent passed me a script. She does it all the time and I’m not sure Mom even knows I have it. So, I read through it, and it’s just wrong on so many levels. First of all, there’s a ton of cursing. I don’t swear. Like, ever.”
“She’s like you.” Walter nodded towards Melinda.
Meghan smiled as she continued. “I would possibly, probably not, but maybe, consider the movie if that were its only flaw. But, there are so many things wrong with it. Like, there are multiple scenes where I would be…”
“Naked,” Pat smiled. “The word is naked.” He turned to Melinda. “She thinks that’s a bad word, too.”
“She’s like you.” Walter again nodded towards Melinda.
Melinda smiled. “Does your agent know how you feel about those kinds of movies?”
Meghan shrugged. “I thought she did. But, she still sent me this. When I told her I didn’t think it was for me, she said that now that I was eighteen, I should consider...how did she put it? Basically, I should be in movies that are for an adult audience, not a kid audience. Shed my good-girl image.”
“But, it’s not an image, right? I mean, I get the impression you’re like your brothers. You really are a good, wholesome girl. And I don't mean that to be insulting. It's something to be proud of.”
“Is she this insightful with everyone?” Meghan asked Walter.
“Pretty much. Except when it comes to boyfriends. She has a horrible track record there.”
“Ouch,” Pat put a hand to his chest, pretending to be insulted.
Melinda shook her head. “No. Walter’s right. I told you about my disasters.”
Pat smiled at Melinda, playing with her hair. “Actually, you never mentioned why you broke up with Townie.”
“You looked at me.” Melinda smiled, remembering how her ex-boyfriend was jealous of the time Melinda spent with her guy friends.
Pat smiled back. “No, seriously. Why’d you break up?”
“She is serious,” Walter said. “He got jealous you looked at her.”
“Wow. You really do have horrible taste in guys. What does that say about me?”

Although their game did not take long, by the time Melinda and her friends were finished, everyone was growing hungry. They headed down to the kitchen, where Walter pressed a button on the wall beside the doorway.
“Mom, do we have anything for lunch?”
Mrs. Evan’s voice emanated from the speaker beside the button. “Lunchmeat. Have some sandwiches. I think there’s some canned soup if you want to heat it. We’re having meatloaf for supper, with potatoes. Is that okay with Melinda?”
Walter held the button for her to respond.
“It sounds delicious.” She was unable to recall the last time she had even had meatloaf and decided it was probably before she had attended Hartfield, because she was certain she had not eaten any at school.
Walter began taking meats and condiments from the fridge and Pat retrieved the bread and canned soup from a walk-in closet Melinda assumed was the pantry. When Meghan went to a cabinet to get them all plates, Melinda began to feel useless.
“How can I help?”
Meghan pointed to a cabinet. “Cups. Get drinks. I want water.”
“Me, too,” chorused the boys.
“Tap?” Melinda knew the tap water in her parents’ home was nearly undrinkable.
“Use the fridge,” Pat instructed her. “It’s got a filter.”
So, Melinda used the dispenser in the front of the refrigerator to get four glasses of ice water, which she carried to the breakfast nook. Meghan had set two plates on one side of the table, and a plate in front of each of the remaining benches. Melinda placed a glass at each plate, then returned to the counter where Pat was dumping cans of soup into bowls and placing each one in the microwave.
“Here,” he smiled at her as he handed her a bowl. “This one’s chicken noodle.”
Melinda placed the bowl in the center of the table, finding Walter had selected a seat and begun making his sandwich. When she returned to the table with a second bowl (minestrone), Meghan had sat on the middle bench and was smearing mayonnaise on her bread. Melinda noticed the plates had been rearranged so that she and Pat would be sitting together on the bench facing Walter.
Melinda sat down after bringing the bowl of Italian Wedding soup to the table and Pat joined them a moment later with another bowl of chicken noodle soup. Melinda waited to make a sandwich, mesmerized by the one Walter was building. He had spread deli mustard on a slice of bread, then placed a slice of American cheese, a slice of salami, a slice of cheddar cheese, a slice of ham, a slice of provolone cheese, and a slice of turkey. He then spread mayonnaise on two sides of another slice of bread and layered it with the same cold cuts before spreading more mustard on a third slice of bread to complete the sandwich.
“Where’s the lettuce and tomato?” Meghan asked him.
Luckily, she had caught him before he had a chance to take a bite. He picked up his sandwich. “I don’t want any.”
“But, I do.” Meghan stared at the turkey on her bread. “Was there any in the fridge?”
Walter shrugged as he took a giant bite. “Prob’ly.”
Meghan simply shook her head in disgust as she went to look for the toppings. “Melinda, seriously? How are you friends with him? He’s so gross!”
“It’s not so much that we’re friends. It’s more that we have an arrangement. I let him copy my math homework and he helps me understand my Latin.”
“You also drag me to church,” Walter added.
“Oh, yeah. That’s because I have to watch you eat.”
Everyone laughed as they continued to build their sandwiches. A moment later, Walter asked, “Does anyone else want the chicken noodle soup?”
“There’s two,” Pat pointed out.
“Not for long. Unless someone else wants some.”
“Me!” Melinda announced and gently slid one of the bowls closer to her before her friend could take it.
Meghan chose not to have any soup, so Pat ended up eating both of the others in addition to a ham and cheese sandwich. Walter, meanwhile, had a second sandwich, this time only one layer.
“So,” Walter said as he took a large bite. “Now what should we do? More WTTE?”
“NO!” declared both girls adamantly.
“Melinda didn’t come to play board games all day,” Pat told his brother.
“What would Melinda like to do?” asked Walter.
“I have no idea. I had no plans for today.”
“We could watch a movie,” suggested Pat.
“We could play video games,” suggested Walter.
“That might be fun,” Melinda said.
They finished their lunches, making sure to return all the food to the fridge and even placing their dirty dishes in the dishwasher before returning to the playroom. They sat in the bean bag chairs on the floor while Walter turned on the television and gaming system and passed out the remotes.
The Evans family owned a large selection of video games in all genres, but Melinda examined the boxes carefully until she found one that she thought might look interesting. She held it up.
“Can you teach me to play this one?”
Pat smiled as Walter groaned. “That’s my favorite game. Walter hates it because he always loses.”
Pat put the game into the system and explained the basics. The screen split into four zones, one for each player. Melinda had to select which cartoon character she wanted to be, then select her race car. She could customize the wheels and body, but she elected to stick with the default settings, not knowing what else to select.
Pat told her there were many tracks they could race, but he would choose an easy one while she learned how to play. He showed her which buttons she should press to move and the game started.
As they drove, the players collected special items, which could be used to help them in the race. Walter threw an oil barrel that caused slicks all over the track, causing Melinda to turn around and lose her place. Pat threw bananas that would have had a similar effect, except Melinda was able to swerve around the peel at the last second. Meghan collected a star that allowed her to zoom along at double speed and pass nearly everyone. Melinda collected a clock, which Pat showed her how to throw. It caused everyone to freeze for five seconds while she continued to move, allowing her to pass the finish line while everyone was still frozen, since she had thrown it during the final lap.
Melinda had fun playing with her friends, even when Walter changed the game to one where they had to work together to defeat some evil elf lord. After a while, Walter was the only one alive, but he did not seem to notice. Meghan left, declaring she had something better to do, although she had no idea what it could be. Pat beckoned Melinda to join him in his chair, where he put his arm around her. She snuggled close as he whispered in her ear.
“I missed you, Daphne. I miss holding you.”
Melinda said nothing for a while, but simply watched Walter’s game on the screen while Pat played with her hair absently as he tried to help his brother..
“Dude! Not the arrows!”
“I know, I know!” Walter cursed under his breath as he pressed buttons furiously. His bow and arrow turned into a sword and he was able to lop off the head of a creature Melinda thought might have been a tree, but she really could not tell.
“That was close.” Walter sat back as on the screen his character traveled through the woods to destroy the next creature he encountered.
Melinda turned to Pat. She laced her fingers behind his neck as she returned his gentle kiss. They held each other close until Melinda could no longer endure the warm feeling that filled her entire body to bursting every time she kissed Pat. They sat with their foreheads touching for a moment while Melinda waited for her heartbeat to return to normal.
“I missed you, too.” They kissed for quite a while until Walter began cursing at the screen again.

Walter never seemed to tire of defeating the elf lord, so Pat offered to give Melinda a tour of the house. He explained that most of the second floor was their bedrooms, although the two doors they had passed at the top of the stairs were adjoining offices for his parents. They turned left out of the playroom and walked slowly down the corridor, which was lined with windows to overlook the pool below. The hallway opened into a lounge area with a small table in front of two bathrooms whose lights were off and doors were ajar.
Pat led Melinda through the door at the end of the hallway into what could only be described as a movie theater. The enormous room had dark walls and a sloping floor, with a massive screen mounted to the wall at the bottom of the room. Melinda counted four rows, each containing five cushy red seats. In front of Melinda was an actual concession stand, with an empty popcorn machine, a small refrigerator with bottles of soda and water, and a display case of movie theater candy.
“Wow,” was all Melinda could say.
“My mom designed this room to have movie screenings. Or, we’ll use it to watch Dad’s music videos. But, this is also where we like to watch movies, too.”
“Not, like, regular television, right?”
“Honestly, none of us watch too much tv. Neogenesis is a must in here, though. The surround sound is incredible. Other than that, I’m not sure any of us watch anything else.” Pat shrugged. “Come on. I wanna show you the rest of the house.”
They walked down the sloping aisle to an exit at the front of the room that opened to the pool deck. The indoor pool had four full-sized lap lanes, which were marked on the pool floor but did not have the bubbles floating in the water to separate the lanes. The room was a little too warm for Melinda in her sweater and jeans, but she said nothing.
“There’s a sauna and hot tub in that room over there,” Pat gestured towards to a glass room just beside the theater, “but, we’re not allowed in it most of the time.”
“What are those doors?” Melinda pointed across the way.
“Those are the guest rooms. Their bathrooms open out to the pool. We keep swim suits in the dresser in case people want to go swimming and forgot to bring a suit. Like, you didn’t bring one today because who swims in November, right?”
Melinda giggled and Pat pointed beside the guest rooms. “Over there,” he pointed beside the guest rooms, “is the library. I can show it to you later, if you want.” There were plenty of windows in the library, so Melinda was able to espy bookshelves lining the walls, as well as a couple of study desks and some comfy-looking chairs.
“It kind of looks like the study room at school.” Melinda and Walter did their homework together in the same library room most evenings. Pat had joined them enough times to know the room to which she was referring.
“Yeah, it kinda does. I think that’s why Walter’s more apt to study there than in his dorm. It’s like being home. When we were homeschooled, the library was our schoolroom.”
Pat led Melinda past a glass-walled room, through the sliders into the living area Melinda had seen when she first arrived. Instead of turning left into the kitchen, however, Pat led her through another set of double glass doors into the glass-walled room she had seen from the pool deck.
“This is the gym.”
Melinda was facing a large circular contraption that had a bench in the center and a stack of weights on the side. Melinda had seen commercials for smaller versions on television, but had never seen anything this large or complex. It was too complicated for Melinda to figure out how it worked, but according to the pictures on the poster affixed to the wall beside it, you could use this machine could be used to tone over twenty different body regions.
Beside the home gym was an old fashioned weight bench with a rack of free weights beside it. There was a mirror with some mats and exercise balls beside it. Across the room, there were five cardio machines, some of which Melinda could not identify, all facing the pool, although each had some sort of computer screen.
“Why is there a screen on the treadmill?” Melinda pointed to the one machine whose name she did know.
Pat smiled. “You can program it to any setting you want. So, if you want to take a run through the woods, you would just press this button and voila, you’re in the woods.”
“Whose room is this?”
“We all use it. Mom and Meghan like the machines and the home gym. Dad likes to use the home gym, but he prefers to run outside if the weather’s nice. Walter and I like the weight bench, and only use the treadmill in the winter.”
“Where do you go outside? Your road didn’t look that great for running.”
“Did you see the track going around the house? The driveway is kind of part of it, but it goes around the house itself. The track is about a quarter mile.”
“I knew Walter liked to run. I didn’t realize you joined him.”
“Yup. I created a loop around the campus. I showed it to Walter.”
“But, you’re going to stop that when we get back, right? I mean, it's too cold to run.”
Pat shook his head. “Nah. We’ll keep running outside unitl the paths become too icy. Then, we’ll switch to the indoor track.
Melinda just shook her head. “No wonder you guys are always eating!”
“Hey! Don’t compare me to that gourmand!”
“Gourmand?”
“Someone who really likes to eat. Usually excessively.”
“Oh! That is a perfect description of Walter! I’m gonna save that word for Weddas.”
Beside the gym was Mr. Evans’ music room, which was actually a small studio. In addition to an upright piano and a wall of guitars, it held some music stands and a mixing board. Pat explained that the room was soundproofed and completely wired with microphones, so the band could record in here as they practiced. Sometimes their father would record music as he wrote it, so he could share it with his bandmates later.
“That’s so cool,” was all Melinda could think to say.
Pat led her back to the living room. “That’s pretty much the whole house. There’s a dining room off the kitchen, but we only use that for company. So, what d’ya wanna do now?”
Melinda thought for a little while. “How warm’s the pool?”
Pat frowned. “The filter’s broken. I wanted to swim this morning, after my run, but Mom said we can’t use it until the filter is fixed. I say we watch a movie.”
“In that theater?”
“Well, yeah. That’s the best place to watch movies.”
“Um, is your mom gonna freak out if you and I watch a movie alone there?”
Pat considered a moment, then went to the intercom Walter had used earlier. “Melinda and I are going watch a movie. Anyone want to join us?”

Big. Enormous.
His face full of concern.“What’s wrong?”

2020.09.25 14:51 IssaSpida To save or not to save - Diamonds Edition Book Notes (No Spoilers)

This post is an addition to my main post here. I ran out of character space so I had to create this post.
*Note - The Freshman Series, The Royal Romance/Heir Series, and the Rules of Engagement Series are being worked on. All other book notes are completed.*
Across the Void Note - Some LI Diamond Choices affect more than just the LI romance and impact the story immediately and later on. In addition some Other WE options can affect LI romance and impact the story later on. If you don't care about spoilers please see the walkthrough. Some, if not all, LI's can be romanced to a degree without diamond options. The diamond cost under LI WE is so high due to having multiple LI options for the MC and across more than one player controlled character.
America's Most Eligible Books 1 and 2 Note - LI's can be romanced without choosing diamond options. Some Other NE choices negate player approval from certain characters however not choosing those same Other NE choices gain the player approval from other certain characters. In some cases not choosing the Other NE diamond choices can still net approval rating if you succeed at the event. Please see guide if you're trying to get certain player approvals. Some LI options only net 1 approval rating while other LI options net multiple chances for approval rating. Not everyone is an LI but diamond choices with Non LI characters still gain/lose approval points.
America's Most Eligible Book 3 Note - There is no LI/Person Approval rating. Everything is based around Wedding Points. There are plenty of opportunities to get Wedding Points without using diamond options but I am unsure how the book plays out that way since I haven't completed the book.
Bachelorette Party Note - While there are diamond choices that effect the checklist collection no diamond options have long term effects or rating approvals therefore all options have been listed under "No Effect".
Big Sky Country Books 1 and 2 Note - While there are no long term effects from diamond decisions some diamond options do alter the storyline.
Blades of Light and Shadow Note - LI's can be romanced without spending diamonds. Some diamond choices can both have an effect or no effect at all depending on choices made previously. This book heavily revolves around XP with LI rating as a secondary element. In some cases "LI" options can lead to XP even if you are not romancing that LI. Some Other NE options may lead to bonuses further into the book depending on previous choices made as well as LI approval.
Bloodbound Book 3 Note - Apparently Lily and Jax have an approval rating and it affects the story towards the end. There are 22 chances to gain approval with one or both. 5 are non-diamond choices and 17 choices require diamonds.
The Crown and the Flame Books 1 - 3 Note - Similar to BOLAS, this book series revolves around Prestige and Power with romance approval rating and general approval rating as a secondary element. All aspects of the rating system can be gained without spending diamonds. If you have enough Prestige or Power you can use them for certain choices instead of diamonds. Book 3 becomes Legend rating instead of Prestige.
A Courtesan of Rome Note - This book revolves around the Reputation approval rating. Reputation can be earned without spending diamonds. You can also romance LI's without spending diamonds.
Desire and Decorum Books 1 - 3 Note - LI's can be romanced without using diamonds. Similar to ACOR, this book revolves around Manners. Manners can be earned without using diamonds. Similar to AME, relationship approval with non-LI's do affect the story. Some diamond choices with no effect in book 3 have LI effects IF you are romancing the particular individual. Example, Going with Mr. Sinclaire into his father's study has no effect unless he is your LI.
Distant Shores Note - LI's can be romanced without using diamonds. Some of the NE Outfits can net an effect if you don't get most of the certain timed choices correct. They are listed as NE because they have the potential to not have any effect at all.
The Elementalists Books 1 and 2 Note - There is an Impressed and Spell rating approval but I haven't finished the books so I don't know if it affects the story in a major way. LI's can be romanced without diamonds. The amount of diamonds spent on LI's depends on if you select male/female/both romance options. For the purpose of this guide I will assume that both males and females will be romanced at the same time and any diamond choices that effect said romance will be counted under LI WE. ALTERNATIVELY THIS BOOK ALSO GIVES THE OPTION TO NOT ROMANCE AT ALL HOWEVER SOME LI DIAMOND OPTIONS STILL GAIN SPELL/IMPRESSED RATINGS. Please refer to the walkthrough for a more detailed look at romance effects so you can make a more clear decision if you want to spend diamonds or not.
Endless Summer Books 1 - 3 Note - LI's can be "romanced" without using diamonds but I'm unsure if you need to use diamonds to fully romance. I used a clicker app to get through these 3 books for diamond mining so I only looked at it to click a random option. To be totally honest, this book is similar to AME in the approval rating of all people so some LI WE options may be under Other WE options and vice versa. I honestly recommend using the walkthrough if you really care about the approval ratings because it gets really convoluted.
The Freshman Series TF B 1- 4, TSM B 1 - 2, TJ, TS, +7 Spin Offs Note - Work in progress. Please see this awesome post \Spoilers Ahead*) so you don't waste diamonds. Will update this section later.
The Haunting of Braidwood Manor Note - Some Other NE options provide bonus scenes later on in the book. There is no approval rating in this book so if you want to witness any "romance" scenes then you will need to pay diamonds. You can choose "romance" options without diamonds though.
The Heist: Monaco Note - LI's can be "romanced" without diamonds however there is no actual romance effect or approval. There is a Trust rating and a Heist Score that matter to the storyline. You can gain both without using diamonds. I don't think I ever spent diamonds in the story for Trust and never needed to for Heist Score in order to have a fun playthrough. There are 3 or 4 team members that cost diamonds to recruit however each have a non-diamond counter part. It is 100% player preference who you want even though 2 of the diamond team members give you an extra "edge" in the book. At some point you will get the option to customize something. The effect you gain is +100 HS and +1 Trust to ONE heist member per customization option. Outside of that it is completely aesthetic.
Hero Note - The approval/romance rating is a bit odd. It starts off as a general approval for all and then out of the blue changes into a romance approval and only affecting LI's. The general approval doesn't seem to have any impact on the story. You don't need to spend diamonds to romance an LI but you do if you want to have romance scenes. There is a customization option later on that is aesthetic only.
High School Story Books 1 - 3 Note - There are 2 ratings: Relationship and Football/Band/Cheerleading. Both can be gained without spending diamonds.
HSS: Class Act Books 1 - 3 Note - All 3 books have a Romance rating which can be gained without spending diamonds. In book 2 you gain a Campaign rating. You do not need to spend diamonds to gain this rating. In book 3 you gain a Performance rating. You do not need to spend diamonds to gain this rating.
Home for the Holidays Note - While there is no effect for wearing the Holiday Cheer outfit, should you choose the first diamond scene you will get a +1 romance for wearing it. You can romance LI's without spending diamonds.
Hot Couture Note - It appears that in addition to LI romance rating there is an edgy/elegant rating. All 3 ratings can be earned without diamonds.
It Lives Beneath Note - This book takes place after It Lives in the Woods. The approval rating dictates character nerve. Romance and nerve approval can be earned without diamonds but diamonds do provide greater rating approvals.
It Lives in the Woods Note - The approval rating dictates character nerve if I remember correctly though it could be a general approval rating. Romance and general approval can be earned without diamonds but diamonds do provide greater rating approvals. The rating does impact the book finale.
LoveHacks Books 1 - 2 Note - I don't think there is any plot importance to the following effects but they are as follows according to the Wiki Walkthrough. #WIN is when you have chosen correctly. #OMG is when you have chosen correctly but causes more of a reaction. #FAIL is when you have chosen incorrectly. Some #WIN and #OMG also come with hearts for romance purposes. You can choose romance effects without using diamonds.
Most Wanted Note - Skill and Reputation are the only approval ratings. You can get them without diamonds.
Mother of the Year Note - LI's can be romanced without spending diamonds. Marking this next sentence as a spoiler just in case some people take it that way. You can be in an open relationship. If you are not, some LI WE will actually be NE if you aren't romancing that person. If you are, some LI options that would normally be single selection only will open up to 2 or 3 selections.
My Two First Loves Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
The Nanny Affair Note - This is a single LI book. No matter what you do you end up romancing the LI. There is a Desire Approval from the LI. It seems to not matter to the plot. At some point there is an Impression Approval. I am unsure if it will affect the plot. You do not need to spend diamonds to gain these approvals. If you want a 50 shades of Grey experience, spend diamonds. If you want a tame experience, don't spend diamonds. If you have PTSD or any type of trigger from controlling behaviors/sexual traumas, I recommend not reading this book. I had a hard time getting through it for those reasons for diamond mining. Your LI is HEAVILY forced on you.
Nightbound Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
Open Heart Books 1 - 2 Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
Passport to Romance Note - There is a romance rating. You do not need to spend diamonds to romance an LI. The ratings that impact the story are Followers and Popularity Up. You must spend diamonds to max out these ratings. I spent about 100 diamonds or less and managed to get to the 3rd rating of 4.
Perfect Match Books 1 - 2 Note - There is no romance rating. Your first date outfit grants +Connection however the connection rating has no impact on the story therefore it is up to you if you want to spend the diamonds.
Platinum Note - There is no romance rating. The only rating is the Fans rating and you can gain fan approval without diamonds.
Queen B Note - There are multiple ratings in this book. All can be gained without spending diamonds. The ratings are Romance, Flirt, Good/Bad Girl, and Reputation. Reputation has the biggest impact on the plot.
Red Carpet Diaries Books 1 - 3 Note - In book 3 there is a relationship rating for one specific person. I have no idea if it impacts the story and it does not appear to always require diamonds to get.
Ride or Die: A Bad Boy Romance Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
The Royal Masquerade Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
The Royal Romance Books 1 - 3 + Holiday Note -
The Royal Heir Books 1 - 3 Note -
Rules of Engagement Books 1 - 3 + Newlyweds Note -
Save the Date Note - There is a romance rating but you do not need to spend diamonds in order to gain it. You will need to spend diamonds for a more romantic experience.
Sunkissed Note - There is a romance rating but you do not need to spend diamonds in order to gain it. You will need to spend diamonds for a more romantic experience.
The Unexpected Heiress Note - There are multiple ratings in this book. All can be gained without spending diamonds. The ratings are Romance, Etiquette, and Impress. There are also clues that impact the story. It's about a 50/50 split between needing and not needing diamonds to get clues. In the beginning you will have the chance to show yourself as a Proper Lady or an American Charmer. I am unsure if this matters to the overall plot.
Veil of Secrets Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds. There are clues that impact the story. Not all clues require diamonds to find but most do.
Wishful Thinking Note - There is a romance rating but you do not need to spend diamonds in order to gain it. You will need to spend diamonds for a more romantic experience. There is also an Interview rating throughout the book which doesn't always require diamonds.
With Every Heartbeat Note - There is no romance rating. You can select romantic options without using diamonds but for a more romantic experience you will need to spend diamonds.
Witness: A Bodyguard Romance Note - This is a single LI book with a romance rating but you do not need to spend diamonds in order to gain it. You will need to spend diamonds for a more romantic experience. From what other Reddit Posts have indicated this book eats diamonds by having diamond choices within diamond choices.
